anyone recomend a good smith for 1911 tuning?

I had two deals with Gunnar, and zero problems...he was however a little slow to return emails....

That's like saying Einstein was a little smart. Very creative excuses, however. He was great if you didn't mind getting your gun back just in time to use it during your retirement years.

has anyone else noticed that emailing gunsmiths and waiting for replies is like waiting for a good looking girl to ask you out..... just dosnt seem to happen.

guess ill abandon all the emails i sent out and scale up to phone calls.

I had some work done by Peter Riedel at Rust Wood Trading (a site Sponsor) and here is what happened:
I phoned him up and told him what I needed done, he said it would take three months.
OK...I still needed it done so I took the guns out to him, a week later he phones me up and says they are ready to go.
You mileage may vary.
The work involved replacing a recoil shield on a clone of the 1873 Colt Single Action and fixing the timing on a Second Generation Colt Dragoon which came from the factory in deplorable condition. He not only fixed the recoil shield on the SAA but replaced the firing pin and mainspring and fixed the ejector rod spring which was buggered and I didn't even know it.
The Dragoon came back without any extra marks on it and the timing is perfect.
The price was right and I am very pleased with the attention to detail.
Don't know if he does 1911's but you could ask, give him a call.

I emailed Dean a few days ago and he only took 2 days to get back to me. It was also a stat holiday so I think that slowed down the reply.
