anyone regreted getting a Norinco?

I've had my Norc 1911 for nearly 3 years now, and the only regret I have is that now I'm starting to get the customization bug. That means that I'll not only wind up throwing some bells and whistles onto the Norc, but I'll need a second plain jane 1911 to fill my need for a mil-spec.

I have an HP-9 shotgun with a 14 inch barrel and I love it, so does everyone who shoots its. No malfunctions and its very reliable, no mods at all on it.

Also have a Tokarev and I shoot it more than my Beretta 92FS because its fun, accurate and the ammo is just 10 cents a round. Fit and finish on the Tok I revieved is surprisingly good and very acceptable imho.

I bought a 1911, and was moderately unimpressed from day one. I put about 500-600 rounds through it, and was less impressed. Finish was awful, frequently failed to eject thoroughly, and the firing pin RUSTED on me! (Yes, I do know how to clean and maintain my other firearms just fine on the wet coast of B.C.). As previously mentioned, the sharp edges also led to a few bloody moments!

Gave the pistol to my wife, and she hasn't had much more luck. In fact, she hates it so much, she's actually talking about buying a Glock! ;)

I would have to look long and hard before I would spend the money on another Norinco product.... although they are inexpensive, I do prefer my firearms to go "bang" each time I pull the trigger, until the magazine is empty!

That said, a friend of mine has a Norc 1911 that is wonderful... But he did add about $500 in parts to a $400 gun. Personally, I'd rather spend the $900 in one go, and get the warranty!

YMMV,

Neal

Yes, I have regrets with my Norincos... NP29 and 1911 in .45.

I REGRET selling them ! I had so much fun deburring / dehorning them and touching them up. You could not even tell that they were sharp from the factory. I was so proud of my work ! Then I learned to re-parkerize the 1911 in the kitchen and it was just superb ! What a great learning opportunity. Yeeeha.

I miss my Norinco pistols since they shot so very well right outta the box and I even won some matches with the NP29....

Yes, as soon as Marstar gets more NP29's in stock... I'm grabbing another one ! That's my regret.

My only Norinco regret is trying to fix my Tok grips with a welder  .
The Bakelite or whatever they're made of doesn't like applied heat......at all. And naturally, they're slightly different from TT-33 grips  .

If so what model and why?

Can't decide if I should get NP-22... I think I might regret not saving the money and getting the real deal...
Well I bought a M-305 M14 last year, needed to replace my FN that they made prohib. I love it. Good fit and finish on all metal parts, but a reall horrible stock. What kind of wood is that ,..SWAMP SPRUCE?? Any ways, I sanded it down, stained it and varnished it and it looked pretty good. Its a very good shooting rifle. No complaints. BOUGHT a sks-d last year, Exellent light coloured stock.NO bayonet fixtures. Shoots 100% No probs. 30 round mag with green milatary sling. Bothe really good guns.Thumbs up MARSTAR. P.S got a good 1858 buffalo revolver from them as well. Great gun for the money.

I bought myself a 45 1911A1 a few months ago,I wanted a milspec type of pistol for plinking, and thought for the price that the Norinco would be a good bet.(over the years Ive owned quite a few 1911's including STI,SVI,Colts and springfields)

The Norinco has been a bit of a let down, poor fit and finish, poor sights, terrible trigger, lots of sharp edges so that after 50rounds its getting painful to shoot and it wont feed SWC rounds, but for its price,I shouldnt be too suprised.

I dont regret buying it,as I still like having a plain jane 1911 and its fun to plink with, but my advice for someone ,say, wanting to get into IPSC would be to save up and get something like a Kimber or BUL.You could send a Norinco too a gunsmith to have sights, trigger, beaver tail, new barrel etc done, but after that is paid for(and having the 6 month wait),you would be better off just buying a decent gun in the first place. If you enjoy home gunsmithing then the Norinco may be or you

have a 1911, i have no complaints (except the factory grips...YUCK!) I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, others i have talked to locally have also had good results.

I've had several 1911 Norincos and with a little massaging, they all shot great. The trigger pull is usually horrific and the grips do suck but with a few extra parts and some good smithing talent I've managed to keep in the top three at my local club and a few of the other guys are doing well with theirs.
I've tried the NP-22 and the actual SIG but found the NP-22 to be more comfortable - not as "solid" feeling as the SIG, but easy to shoot. Their CZ-85 copy also shoots very well.

That said, I bought their "Hi-Power" clone years ago and it was a piece of crap. I still don't know exactly what's wrong with the ejection (question to be posted) but it has a great trigger pull now...
