Whatever Large Rifle primers you have on hand (assuming you don't have the small primer casings). I use Winchester WLR, as I save my harder-to-find CCIs for other calibers. I use my reloads in a CZ 858 which has a smaller, lighter free-floating firing pin. I don't have any problems with slamfires. That being said, make sure that big triangular SKS pin floats real good before chambering a round (without a second in the mag).
 
I like to reload everything I shoot (except rimfire, of course) but I gave up on 7.62x39 because my 858, SKS and AK (when I used to be able to shoot it) each threw the empties all over the place (I was lucky to find 70% of them at the outdoor range) and beat the crap out of the empties that I could find. It made shooting reloadable ammo pretty expensive. If you've got a bolt or single shot then by all means reload. If you're talking a semi the suggestion that you pull the bullets from steel cased ammo & replace with lead core bullets is the best way to go.
 
I load 150gr Sierra .311 /21gr of IMR 4198 and had 4 holes touching at 75 yards out of a Chinese SKS.Otherwise a 123gr and 24gr of Win 748.This SKS shoots .308 diameter bullets just as well and Hornady dies send both expanders .Harold
 
I've done some reloads for testing, but I haven't shot them yet. I sliced my forward (left) hand open, and have had a tremor in it every since. So, for load testing, I'm not quite so good. I buy the brass for reloading as I have a CZ 527. For a factory gun, I highly recommend it.
 
I reload 7.62x39 using 123gr .310dia. Hornady spire points and IMR 4198.
I use either PMC, PPU, or S&B brass which is usually plentiful at the indoor range I shoot at.
My SKS for some reason does not put any marks whatsoever on the brass.
 
I've done some reloading for x39 using PRVI Brass from commercial loads. I load them for my CZ, not for my SKS. THe SKS rips the crap out of good brass and is difficult to find them. In all honesty, I find its not worth the hassle to reload them considering the PRVI loads shoot 4 out of 5 rounds in a dime at 100 yards. Thats getting difficult to top, not impossible, but just not worth the hassle.

Another consideration for trying to reload x39 was to up the bullet weight to 170gr to match a 30-30 load. This worked ok, but the re-sighting of the heavy load gave up the ability to shoot cheap loads for sh*ts n giggles, so I went back to sighting for factory/surplus loads.


At the end of the day, I picked up 40 boxes of PRVI soft points for hunting and still have most of them. I enjoyed playing around with the loading and test firing as that is what the hobby is all about. Still, I can't make a load shoot any better than the PRVI commercial soft points, and I wouldn't save a great deal of cash doing so. My time was better spent on other things.

This right here. I dont know what they use for powder, but I can't get the almost 2500fps out of them without pressure signs. Unless I am looking for something for my SKS, I will hunt with the PRVI in my 799.

In my search for re loadable rounds I found this place ammosupply.ca
they have pretty much everything and no bs service , I picked up a bunch of privi soft points 123GR
re-loadable and indoor range safe haven't tried them yet but soon and like was mentioned
trying to collect them at the range is gonna be a pain ,but its a start I can turn off the gas tube and single
shot this rifle as well so I can grab the cases easier and see if it beats the crap out of them
doesn't seem to hurt the milsurp but the cases are alot harder
I've delt with the floating pin issue by installing a murrays spring loaded pin thanks to Hi Cal
that and its cleaned regularly especially after a milsurp shoot
looking forward to tinkering with it press & dies are on the way but taking forever it seems
had to go states side couldn't find dies here anywhere , now i need some for my Sig
which looks like no one has either waiting for Henry @ budget to open on the third
 
Well I went a slightly different route. I shot lead in my SKS. I found WC735 surplus powder worked great in the 7.62x39 as it does in my 30-30 loads. I sold my SKS a while back. I found the 7.62x39 a great cartridge to reload. While the SKS never was a sniper rifle playing with loadings improved accuracy significantly. I never explored gallery loads for indoor play; the option is there with lead boolits.
