The most accurate load in my M94 .30-30 is 37 or 38 grs of H335 with a 150 gr Winchester bullet. This load punches through both shoulders of good size deer. There is always a good blood trail and the deer never go more that 50-60 yards.
A good varmint/coyote load is 43 grs H335 with a 100 gr Speer "Plinker".
A good cast bullet load is 26 grs of H4895 with a Lee 170 gr flat nose gas check bullet.
I reload for my savage 340 30-30 bolt gun. I use max charge of leverevolution powder (don't remember the weight, it is on the container) with leverevolution projectiles. Very nice. Very accurate. And slightly faster than commercial.
For a 169gr Lyman 311291 I load either 25gr of Winchester 748, or 32gr H335. That's developed from data in the lyman book. The H355 load is near max. The 748 is closer to the starting load
I was shooting off some of my dads old loads from the 80's. Hercules 2400 was his goto powder for economical reasons. He's got recorded 20gr of 2400. That's one grain shy of maximum for the data in the 44th edition of the lyman book that I have here.
I haven't shot my 94 much in the last few years but the jacketed load that I used regularly was 32.0 grs of Win 748 and a 170gr Hornady flat point. This is/was the max recommended load given by Winchester but I never had any pressure indicators - in my rifle. Good case life with little stretching. Always check at least one reliable data source and start low when working up any new load.
