Started working on my reloads (Hornady 150g Interlocks) for the Ruger and I have a question regarding seating depth. I know, not another one! :p A buddy gave me some good advice, but it is quiet here at work right now, so I figured I would ask CGN'ers too! :d

I don't have my manual with me to quote the "recommended" OAL for 150g SP, but I have found that my OAL is much less than what the manual states and I am concerned about pressure. I know OAL will vary amongst rifles, but this was never an issue with my 10TR and .308 loads I developed.

Anyway, I do use the Hornady OAL gauge and took an average depth of 3.197" to the lands. I decided to subtract .015", which gives me a "finished" dummy round of 3.182". The round chambers and fits the magazine just fine, but as I said I am concerned with pressure. If memory serves, this is roughly .098" below what is shown in the manual.

I am going to start dropping powder tonight, and I will start with the min powder for 4064 and work up to by .5 increments, but I was curious if anyone else has found the American chambering to be much different than most?

Thanks guys!

I find working up a load in .5 increments a BIG waste of componants myself. I go back 5% from max and go 1 grain at a time, You max book load is 47gr at 50.000 psi according to Lyman and COL is 3.10 "... FS

The interest in this post has been truly inspiring... ;)

Anyway, found my load for those that search in the future:

Interlock 150g
45g IMR4064
WIN primers
COL 3.184

I am shooting at a buddies farm, where the flies were driving me nuts. I am going to blame distraction on this flyer, cause the SOBs were biting!

Interesting find today. Same 45g of 4064 but this time I neck sized only. While still decent groups, they did open up. I had some FL sized loads left over and the groups were touching. Since this RA was bought to be my deer/mooserifle, I am going to stick with FL. The 20 or so I reload should last for some time. ;)
