Anyone reloading 7.62x54..?

7.62x54R reloads

Im interested in learning loades for the 7.62x54R cartridges aswell, but for my mosins, new to reloading, any points on such would be helpful. any serious differances for svt's or mosins, bullet weight, powder load. or can i use same cartridge load for both. plans for an svt is near the top of my list, which is why i ask. any help is great.:p

I hear you guys as well and will be reloading 7.62x54r myself for my Mosins and SVT. I bought a reloading manual and there seems to be quite a few good loads for both. Also, ArtyMan is a good source of info on reloading 7.62x54r and he has quite a few rifle reviews up for the Mosin.

Yes, artyman is a great source of knowledge for reloading that calibur. I've seen him shoot reloads very well. Only problem with the SVT is it beats the hell out of the brass.

I agree with the above saying that the SVT will chew your brass up, my friend shoots an SVT but only feeds it surplus. He loads for his mosins as do I for my 91/30.

I got a Sierra manual that has lots of good info, for myself, IMR 3031 works great with 150 gr PRVI FMJ's. I also had luck with IMR 3031 and 150 Hot cor SP's.

Thanks guys! I do my best to dispel the myths about these " innaccurate pieces of commie garbage" :D

Soviet WW2 SVTs and Mosins were all designed around a 150gr "Light Ball" round, and I find any 150gr jacketed bullet performs very well. Try and avoid round nose ammunition if possible, I find it dosnt tend to 'fly straight' out of these rifles. I use Reloader 15 powder and I havnt swayed. Its great stuff and its commonly available. Im sure other powders work well, I simply have not had the chance to try them ( I have heard GREAT things about the IMR series of powders, but I'll let someone who has used it chime in).

There seems to be this common misconception that Mosins use .308 bullets. Some do, most commonly the Finn rifles, however for your standard, run of the mill Soviet Refurb, expect your bores to run around the .311-.313 range. "Slugging the bore' is the best method to determine ones dia. I have personally seen Mosins range from .308-.316 !

I have some gas checked cast bullets coming in soon and plan to test them out on my M44. A good cheap alternative to surplus. Half the amount of powder and half the bullet costs = equals more bang. I like the idea of sizing per bore in the Mosins.

Can't afford to feed semi-autos anymore and if I could I'd use surplus. Too tough on brass for sure.
