Anyone running a 20" vent rib on their 500?

Anyone? I remember reading an article in Weapons for Law Enforcement back in 2003 that talked about this very setup. It was being touted as a great do it all shotgun for someone who could only afford one.

I believe that it was a custom setup but now Mossberg sells a 20" vent rib with removable chokes. They used the Wad Wizard setup in the article which seemed like a pretty good setup. SWAT choke for home defence and the other one for hunting. While it may not excel at either it could do both reasonably well. Lately I've been thinking about it more and more. I've got a barrel-less 500 sitting around that I'd like to get more use out of and this just might turn it into my go to shotgun.

Now if I could just find the barrel in Canada. Of course it will likely cost me more than what I paid for the shotgun but I haven't seen too many cheap vent rib barrels in the EE.

Anyone else have ideas for the perfect do it all shotgun?

I have a 18.25" ribbed barrel on my Maverick88.
I bought a used 28" and cut it. I'm pretty sure there's enough metal to thread it.
I found the barrel in the EE for $100. I don't know what threading would cost.

I'd post a pic but it's in an ati stock. Its fuglyness is embarrassing. ;)

Haha, I'll ignore the ATI. If I find a cheap barrel I'd likely have it cut down to about the same and threaded.

20" is probably the more useful length but what the hey. Need to see more cut down vent ribs. Pretty common in the 80s and 90s. Folks like Scattergun Tech and Robar would do it all the time.
