I don't know where you guys live, but as I type this, it's snowing like crazy outside. Gonna be awhile till I get to go bear hunting around here! Good luck to those that can go now! Good shooting, Rosco.

April 18, 2 Black bears

Spring is slowly coming to eastern Manitoba, but there's still lots of snow and ice in the bush. Usually I'm already baiting by now getting ready for the opener, but this year I'm probably at least two weeks behind. Anyone spotted any bears yet? I'm getting itchy to get out into the woods and doing something!

Saw two black bears on Sat. the 18th close to Fraserwood. Sitting, eating in an oat field that was only half harvested because of the wet fall. One at around 4 pm, looked to be around a 300 pounder, nice looking bear. The other one was in the same field a couple hours later about a half mile down the road, probably last years cub, maybe 150 lbs. They sure like those oats.

Saw one yesterday near Okanagan Falls. He was a good size, pure black. He was also keen to put some distance between me, my dog, and the rifle I jacked a round into (just in case).

Came across a nice bruin sunning April 2nd, but no rifle in hand.
Passed up on three blackies today, but might go back tomorrow.
And have reports from the landlord of one in my yard, wonder how long it'll take before it discovers the electric fence around the honeybees, that ot to be a good zapping show @7500volts.:D

Well we went out to the Whiteshell yesterday and managed to get into the cabin. I walked out onto the lake and the ice is still thick and hasn't deteriorated at all. Last weekend the snow was knee deep on the trail, this weekend it's pretty well gone. Didn't see any fresh bear sign but then again the greens aren't out yet so without much forage I don't know if they'll be moving much. The weather is really cool this springand there's still sow around. So much for global warming.

don't let that fool you though ! last year , same thing , but ice went out and gone from one day to the next , and that was at shoe lake just north in nopiming park , ice was 2 feet thick and 7 day later it was gone! those little lakes warm up real quick and ice goes fast. BUT, back on topic..... Bears are out in MB ! We were out again 2 days ago , plenty of signs, just don't think they are going far from the dens as yet. Not that much greenery for them yet, give it another week or so and they'll be out in force here :)
