Just wondering with the early spring and +25C temperatures the past few days, if anyone had seen any Yogi's poking their noses out of the dens yet. The snow's gone in southern Manitoba and the ice is out on the Red, I'm thinking that the bears should be starting to move around. Usually we start baiting late April and start hunting end of the 1st week of May, but this year could be an early start.

i was out and a bout today and saw some skat. once i see the skunkcabbage start i start heading out. in bc we are still getting flurries in the lowermainland

I have to assume our mb bears will be out and about. Way too warm for them not to be skulking around. It should be interesting to see what happens with coat condition etc. if we get all this warm weather way in advance of the season.

Yeah, the ticks will be out early too which means that the hides will be getting thin real early this year. Going to set up a couple of baits this weekend. Probably won't start feeding yet but I'll get stands up and bait sites cleaned up.

+25? I'm moving to Manitoba!!!! woke up to it flaking this morning.... got up to 10 where I am at.

stay where you are! don't be fooled! this is an all time record setting Spring, they say on the radio, that it's not likely to ever happen again! we're enjoying it while we can, though! :)

Had a little bear go by the back of the house on March 13. The only reason I know he went by was because of his tracks in the snow. Funny thing was I could only see a few tracks in a row, we could not see where he came from or where he was going. We did have bare patches of snow then and now have very little snow. It could be the same little guy that hung around last summer the cottagers seem to feed by not locking or cleaning up garbage and leaving bird feeders out.

Yeah, here in s ont I have already gotten covered in ticks when going out checking trail cams etc

Not in northern Alberta, still lots of snow and nothing fresh an green to eat. No point to wake up yet.

Same over here...total snow cover yet, and maybe above freezing this weekend. Bears shouldn't be out voluntarily.

That said, I was called out to a logging operation where the machinery had disturbed a denning sow & cub. Mamma came out climbed a tree, looked around and went back in the den. She & cub stuck heads out yesterday evening...and she was seen again today. seems that she's back in there and hopefully staying put, so we just ordered the machinery to stay away from the area. When they are rousted in the dead of winter and take off, it can't end well for them...but I think there's hope in this case.

One of my co-workers took pictures of fresh grizzly tracks meandering around in February during a warm spell on his trapline. Makes ya take a good look around when working alone in our remote winter access only areas during this mild winter. They're forecasting warm weather around here this week and it was +4C today :)

God I hate having to wait until August to worry about baits !!! God Damn you Ontario Liberals !!!!

Had a large one on the back steps last week. No cubs seen, so I assume it was a boar. Did I mention that is was large?
