Anyone seeing bears yet?

Saw pretty fresh tracks on the sand shoulder of the road in Haliburton county . Im not an expert but i would guess at his weight being 125 -150 from the size of the track

I was out last weekend for the afternoon and we saw 7 blacks... The only "shooter" was the only one we saw on posted private land... We will see what this weekend brings...

I wish I could go on a spot and stalk bear hunt. Nothing but heavy bush in Manitoba gotta bait and wait. One day I'll have to go back to B.C., never had the chance when I lived out there.:(

He was coming to my turkey pile a couple weeks ago. Kinda sucked as I had to stop baiting to hunt the field and the bear cleaned it all up for me anyways. Only thing not displayed on the pic is location, SE Ontario. Think I can keep 'em around til fall? or will the berries draw him elsewhere.

The bears around here have been feeding in green fields and creek bottoms for two or three weeks... not that that does us any good... thanks to those rat-faced finks, Mike Harris and John Snobelen!

bears are out south of Grande Prairie...not so much towards the mountains..
just stretching their legs as of yet,. no real activity to speak of.

What roads around Grande Prairie, i am not hunting them this year but i would like to get out and take some pictures.

Went and baited on Wednesday afternoon. Bait was destroyed, chain broken and barrel dragged off some 500 yds. through heavy bush, down a ridge to the edge of a swamp. Bear poop the diameter of a pop can around the bait. I've either got a big bear coming in or a bunch of little ones with large a**holes!

On page four already and not even a pic of a dead bear yet ;)

Took this one three weeks ago now, just up the road from our place.

And no, he wasn't shot in the rear end... He just bled like a stuck pig after the 130g TSX poked holes in his chest :)

I would put my money on a big bear. Put up a trail camera so we can see some pictures:cheers:

Here's a picture of three live ones that just walked down the road to us last Thursday. The guy that was with me had never seen grizzlies that close before. He was some excited!

The sow was huge, and the cubs the size of big black bears. To give you an idea of their size, two vehicles can easily pass on that road without moving off the road at all. The cubs are probably two years old. They have been out of their den for some time, as you can see by the lanky appearance of the sow.

Never mind the trail cam, hopefully next weekend I can post some pictures of the real thing! Besides I'm always leary about puttin' up stuff at my baits. Had too many seats, trail timers etc. eaten over the years, and part of me likes the surprise of seeing what comes into my bait. I don't need to shoot a bear each year but I sure enjoy the hunt, whether I tag an animal or not.
