Anyone seeing good numbers of grouse so far?

^^^We've been seeing a few bears around lately, I have seen a brown mom and cub and two solo black bears this month. Just saw a pair of adult quail up the road as I was out walking the dogs just now, babies must have been nearby as they were putting on a show as we got close.

Lots of whitetail as always and I caught a cougar on one of the trail cams I have up on some family land down the way. Seem like plenty of animal activity which is good.

Started out well but lots of cold rainy days lately so definite level of concern on that basis. It was 2.8C on Saturday morning and it was pouring rain during the night. That does not bode well for this fall. Will be watching closely in the next month or so and hope to see some decent #'s. Lake is at normal levels and the bush is lush. Here's hoping.

Was camping in WMU 56 back at the end of April and I saw two and heard a fair amount of drumming. I love grouse hunting but I'm more focused on big game nowadays as my time afield is limited with a little one at home.

Was out yesterday bern'in awff some boredom.
Seen a mah with her brood X 2.
Then a lone male strutt'in cross the rode.
And a snake in attack mode.

Skeer'd me.

I'll see what I can do with photos.

The chikkeezs are late this year and great to see.

Been seeing a lot of chicks and adults in WMU 8, 5, and 16. In the bush for 8 hours a day though. Looks to be on par with last year or slightly better.

Grouse poplashion is Dangerously low on Haida Gwai the raccoons bin hammering the hell out of them
Wear almost to the point there will be no more grouse hunting on Haida Gwai

Numbers have been improving a bit in east-central Saskatchewan. Chased a fairly large flock of sharptails around last fall. There were about 30 in that bunch, took a few of them. Fishing in northern SK in early June and could here quite a bit of drumming in the bushes. All in all, numbers have been improving around here. A couple years ago there was next to nothing.

West of Rocky Mountain House, I have only hit one with the truck, looks like a good year, very early for a bird strike, hope it keeps up. How these stupid birds have survived this long is a mystery.

... yes like all the deer, moose, bear and various other creatures that are road kill... how those stupid animals have survived for so long is a mystery. Lets put you in the woods with nothing but what is on your body and we will see how long you survive...

So far so good once I figured out where to look for them, season opened sept 10th and I brought 3 home my first day out and I got my 5 bag limit yesterday. One of the 3 was a monster, having the inlaws over tomorrow for a grouse feast! If photobucket hadn't pull the plug I'd be able to post pics, VanIsleCam can vouch for me. He's seen pics ;)
