Anyone seen a deer with this before?

Friend of mine here in BC sent me this pic. Wondered what this was growing on this deer. I have no idea. Anyone seen something like this before? Anyone know what this might be?

That’s exactly what I thought. My friend said, and you can see it, it is attached to a tube that goes inside the deer. Not a heart, however.

I’d take it for two reasons: 1. To find out what the hell that is. 2. Get it out of the gene pool.

My first thought was a Fibroma, or wart.

I have not seen that in a deer, but sadly I have in a dog. My 12 yr old large Munsterlander developed a tumor that looked very similar, in her case it was a breast tumor, but cancer can strike young critters too and in other places. If faced with a deer like that while hunting I'd shoot it and punch my tag just to provide a humane end to its life.

Definitely something strange growing there.
I would shoot it [if legal] and take the animal to
the wildlife branch so they could find out what
it is. You might just be ending some suffering
on the deer's part as well. Dave.

I saw a doe a few years ago covered with that. It was a city deer, I called dnr not sure if they did anything.

The environment office would likely give a new tag for being diligent and you showing an animal as unfit for consumption.

How would you handle that out of season?

Ideally id want to shoot it
1) take out misery
2) remove potential cross contamination

But i wouldn't want to get charged with poaching

no good deed goes unpunished

Unfortunately out of season I'd let nature take over.
