Anyone seen a SA m1a reciever anywhere?

^^^^
I'm with Serb.
Get a Nork rifle, take it apart and put the parts aside for spares.

Use the Nork action instead of the Springfield, sand it down, shine it up and have it parkerized over again. The forged Nork is actually better than the cast Springfield.
Vulcan Gun Refinishing (Just outside Windsor Ontario) can do the Parkerize for cheap enough if you do the hand work and polishing or by all means he will polish it up for you if hand work is not your bag. It will just cost a little more.

The cast vs forged debate is such a moot one. If you can put enough rounds through your rifle to wear out a cast receiver you can afford to buy a replacement or any other rifle.

Regardless, knowledgeable people have stated that the norinco receivers are closer to spec than the springfeilds.

If you really want to make a nice rifle, save your pennies and get an LRB receiver. Also consider an JRA. Both are forged for your bragging rights.

A SAI cast receiver will probably last several lifetimes of heavy civilian shooting. SAI receivers have much nicer finishing to them than the norinco product. Better quality control on SAIs part.

Here we go again

I have 5

Winchester
2 X SAI
LRB
JRA

I can tell you first hand that SAI finish is as good as any other although the GI green Parkerizing is probably best. I told myself I would sell the SAI standard when I picked up the Rockola but as it has a GI barrel and I've changed out the trigger and bolt parts I really can't bring myself to. Buy whatever you like.

An M-14 is prohibited. An M1A or an M305 is not an M-14. Only matters because an M-14 receiver will always be considered prohibited.
Cast vs forged is irrelevant. Your engine block is cast. They seem to hold up.
Highly unlikely you'll find an M1A receiver.
There's no such thing as green Parkerizing.

Can you share your secret on getting the green? Vulcan used to add some chemical, he can't get it anymore. Another person told me that when soaking the parts in oil after park'ing them, use the 2 stroke oil with greenish hue to it. I find that one a little strange. But, I do my own, so if you can tell me the secret I'd really appreciate it. I have a 41 Remington 03 which needs that type of finish.

Actually those pics were from Vulcan. Back when I first introduced Nick to CGN. I've been out of the loop for a while, damn I didn't know Nick can't do the green anymore! That was his trademark thing. He said he used to use Parcolubrite if I have the spelling right.

Try his dark grey after time it turned my Bren quite dark, if not use oxphoblue from brownells. It comes out almost black but is by far the most resilient of the bluing/blackening solutions. It's so deep into the metal it actually beads water.

When it comes to impact, bending and wear, forging is greatly superior to cast. An example is a crappy cast wrench. You find out right away.
I'm sure a Springfield would be just fine, but unless it is x rayed or mag particle inspected you will not know if there is any porosity to create a weak spot.

all the unicorns and cast vs forged debate aside......

It's pretty difficult to get an M1A receiver unless you find one in the EE or happen across someone parting out their rifle.
the last one I saw listed here was listed for 900 (?) iirc
Chinese receivers I've seen go for 150 to 250.00 , higher end for the rarer unmarked or early heel stamped polytech versions.
if I was willing to drop 900.00 for a semi auto only m14 type receiver...... I 'would' absolutely look to a forged unit and pay a few hundred more for an LRB M14SA , and if my end game was to have a scoped m14 type rifle , no need for the extra scope mount when there is an LRB M25
not sure if JRA is selling receivers only and not sure if there are any Smith Enterprise receivers coming up this way.....
Prophet River, irunguns and Armtac would be the three places I would start my quest to have a non Chinese receiver imported.
an add in the EE might get you somewhere as well.

Thanks for all the input. I Should have explained my reasoning. I like to hunt in the states aswell as use the state funded range by our place in florida when on vacation. I also like my norinco m14. Thanks to Clinton I can't bring my Norc with me. What I would ideally be doing is just putting my Norc onto a Springfield or other American made reciever. Chinese guns are banned, not chinese parts. If I had 2 grand I would just buy an m1a. But I dont.
And you are right, an m14 is prohibited. I'm really glad you split that hair for me.

This place hasn't changed much eh ... still full of dummies! OP if you post a WTB ad and keep searching the sales section such receivers do come up trust me! Don't lose faith you'll find one soon enough. Goodluck! Cheers,

That is an important detail.
Can you find one stateside and import it? I imagine with fees it would still be cheaper. Could probably even do it yourself with the right permits
