I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to find one of the 380 plates that goes into the Shell Sorter trays. Can't seem to find one in Canada! Has anyone seen one in their travels of gun store websites? I've actually looked off and on for a few months for one of these!

Murray Gardner www.mdgardner.com is listed as a Canadian Supplier on the shell sorter website.
Select Shooting Supplies www.selectshootingsupplies.com also.
Fast Toys www.fasttoys.ca also.

These are all in Canada. We use the .380 plates on the Shell Sorters in Mexico. They really work. And in Mexico, you are really stuck sorting .380 from 9mm as all the gun ranges are chock-full of both casings as the Military and Police never pick up their (9) brass and the Civilians are mostly non-reloaders so there's tons of .380 brass laying around also. The Shell Sorters solved the problem nicely.

How about a sheet of aluminum, sandwiched between a couple sheets of plywood, and you raise a stacked dado blade from a table saw through it?

hmmmm....... I might make one for myself. :)

Gatehouse: I don’t seem to have a sheet of aluminum here, just some stainless steel. I’m curious if arborite can work though, since I have some cutoffs. Glue it to plywood, and make a larger box to sort out the .380. Considering the quantity of 9mm vs .380 in my stash of unsorted brass, I think I’d want a larger sorter than those trays anyhow.

I’m really trying to sort 223 from 9mm. I hear that the 380 plate will work.

The trays actually sort really well for me as I have them stacked on a vibratory tumbler with the bowl removed. Incredibly fast compared to doing it by hand. :)

Slavex does something similar to you. I got a sore back from doing a marathon sorting session one day when doing it by hand.

I just measured .223 brass and it’s close to .380. Curious how much slop I may have doing this on the tablesaw. Tolerances are tight!

Yeah, I saw Slavex's set up and copied it. Virtually all the brass I sort is 45ACP, 357 Magnum, 223 and 9mm. Of course there are some 22LR travelers too.

Right now my procedure is to use all 3 trays on top of the vibrator and that quickly sorts the brass into 45ACP/357 and 9mm + 223

Once that is all done I take the bucket full of mixed 9mm and 223 and just use the black tray. On the vibrator, the cases get jostled so they stand up straight. The 223 being much taller than the 9mm it is relatively easy to pluck them out. But of course it would be even easier if the 223 just fell right through the slots, hence the 380 plate.

But if I have to keep doing it the way I'm doing it's not the end of the world. I usually sort 6 or 7 buckets at a time and it really doesn't take that long doing it this way. Plus I just sit down on a upturned bucket and keep buckets for the different brass within arms reach. So I don't really have to move much and can just rip through it. It's a fraction of the time it takes to shake the trays by hand.
