This is some .303Sav I pulled out of my cabinet. The cases are starting to rot & build up some decayed material from the plastic right in the matching spot the plastic case held the brass?? It is old Dominion I had put in these handy holders?? I have tons of Dominion brass stored in original cardboard packaging, could the plastic be casing this :confused:

Excuse the pics, they all come out that way when I use a camera :mad:

Maybe the plastic held moisture against the brass. Just a guess, but I thnk that's why leather rots brass as well.
 
You have to press that little 'flower' button on your camera for close up shots. Even then, you have to keep about 8-10" from the subject.
Just sayin.
 
It may be moisture or some acidic substance in the plastic. I have just "wooled" the tarnish off and shot them like normal. The older brass is not as pure as the newer stuff and does tarnish easily. As long as the casing does not have holes thru the walls, I would clean and store in drier conditions.
 
I have never seen anything more than a slight discolouration from those carriers.

I wonder what those carriers are made of? The two most likely materials that spring to mind are vinyl and polypropylene. The PP shouldn't be corrosive at all, but vinyl could release chlorine compounds over time and that would be corrosive to brass.
 
I have seen lots of ammo marked as your pictures show from being stored in plastic holders.Whether it's moisture retention/condensation,or an acidic feature of the plastic,????
As the other fella said,if they are not corroded through just shoot them.I am not a big believer in removing tarnish with steel wool,too abrasive IMO,but,YMMV.I tumble my brass.
