Anyone shoot metallic silhouette competition?

I'm looking into some ideas for a competitive shooting event as a charity fund raiser. I'd like something fun and simple, having broad appeal. Just about everyone has a 22. The clincher is that it needs to be able to be run relatively efficiently. How many people can compete in an afternoon? Might there by a way to abbreviate it, or shoot all four distances simulataneously?

These matches can move right along if everyone pitches in. All four distances are routinely shot at the same time. It all depends on how many of each silhouette you have. If you have 10 of each and a proper stand for them all to sit on then you can have 4 shooters start. One on chicks, one on pigs etc... How many silhouettes do you have?

If its going to be a"fun" and "charity" fundraiser, you may want to not go with the official distances. Move them up a lot closer and newbies and amateurs can experiance the thrill of whacking steel pigs. Who knows, maybe a new shooter will emerge out of the chaos. lol

Might have to shorten it right up, if run of the mill shooters are trying the long shots with run of the mill .22s and ammo. At the 2 closest distances they would at least stand a chance.

Silhouette seems to have fizzled out here, but I bought my own targets and keep pecking away.

Funny you should ask. I have just returned from our club shoot and we had 12 shooters for the day. We started at 9 and finished at 3 with long runs and tie breakers. The official rules call for 2min 45sec per round. 15sec for ready and 2min30sec to complete shooting with ten animals in each run. One thing that you might consider is iron sights. I shoot peeps on occasion just to mix it up a bit and it's a heck of a lot harder than it looks. If folks show up with irons and try to shoot at distance it may frustrate them as the targets get really small at those distances. Also the new shooter to this dicipline may not be farmiliar with setting elevations for the required distances and this too can lead to frustration. I think if you can figure out a way to incorporate a reduced course for both scoped and iron sights people would have a lot more fun. Keep in mind we shoot two classes of rifles silhouette and hunter class and this can slow matches down considerably. In your case a single class of run what you brung would be benificial based on its not a sanctioned event and would be a lot of fun for new shooters. The official distances are, CHICKENS 40m, PIGS 60m, TURKEYS 77m, and RAMS 100m. We have fun shoot events here where we use a 25% larger animal but seeing as you don't have animals of that size you could simply move them in by 25%. Just remember that hyper velocity ammo will damage the animals at close range. And if you plan to move the chickens in closer there is a real issue with richochets. Aside from that it sounds like a whole lot of fun. Wish I was closer I'd sure like to participate.
Another fun shoot we have is what's called fruit salad. As long as your range will allow it you simply get fruit of all different sizes from grape sized to water Mellon sized fruit and score it at differing distances. It's a bunch of fun but the clean up stinks.
Have fun with it.

Thanks all. I am very much open to ideas. The metallic silhouette sounded like a good idea to explore. I would say the main criteria for a fund raising event would be 1) broad appeal (so 22 rifles are my first choice, I could even supply them for someone who doesn't come with one) 2) fun 3) efficient for 25 or more entrants.

Ideas?

I shoot in a fun match that has all targets at one distance. We shoot at 30m, iron sights only and other targets as well as conventional silo targets are used. Fox, rabbits, cowboy on horseback, clown faces ,pyramids etc . Some of the targets are given higher point value than others.
With decreased distance the reset time is quicker and the varied targets add to the fun match atmosphere. If the matches are too challenging there will be little interest - people like a carnival.

We use smallbore .22 rifle targets at 11/16/21/27 meters for handgun (extrapolated) so reset time is quick.

Also we limit pistols to iron sights only (so as to avoid the F1 equipment race of IPSC) and after that, 10"BBL and run whatcha brung.
Anschutz Exemplars, all kinds of brownings, rugers, hi standards, hammerli, pardini etc etc.

It's a great time, and we have enough targets to run 8 shooters at once.

Good stuff, it really teaches good shooting mechanics and punishes poor technique without mercy.
