Anyone shoot Sniders or Snider-Enfields? What is the going rate for shooters? Are they 57 cal rimfire?

Kerry was apprenticed at John Rigby and Sons apparantly, and knows both the Snider and Enfield rifle likely better than anyone.
He rebuilds, supplies parts, and sells a mold of his own design, single grease groove, and works super.

Brass is avail. but very Exp.$175.00 plus for the dies....they may be threaded larger then std. 7/8x14tpi., on some presses just remove bushing(Rockchucker)
I'm sure you could reload with out dies and use brass shotgun shells to make brass, wide variance in bore dia., some of the cheaper moulds produce a hollow base with skirts that are too thin and come apart in barrel when asked to expand too much!! M.T. Chambers shows a .585" H.B. 510gr. bullet for the Snider!

You also need to visit the British Militaria Snider-Enfield Forum http://p223.ezboard.com/fbritishmilitariaforumsfrm2 and read all they have - it will set you up nicely.

I think they can be done to 28 gauge, not sure.
Kerrry has barrels, I'm sure he could fix you up.

You don't need to size the shells, just need a humoungous base holder so you can prime your empties. Would strongly recommend one of Kerry Jenkinsons molds if he makes them. He and Cat are about the only people I know who are able to shoot their sniders accurately.

P.S. If you want to shoot on the cheap to get started, Lee sells a mold for 0.600" round balls that weigh about 320 grs. Just press them into the shell by hand and lube the exposed part with Alox.
They shoot ok - my Cadet Carbine hits a 18"' x 18" target consistently at 100 yds, and that is easily the least accurate Snider Enfield out there.

I have a mint MkIII with a Steel barrel but never shot it. I also have about 20 bayonets in my collection that will fit Sniders.
A friend of mine shoots his Snider but uses 20 gage cartredges cut down with a slug inserted. I don't know about it's accuracy or if the round would cause high breech pressures. I never asked him about it.
I sold 10 Sniders five years ago and kept the best one as an example. I just acquired a mint Long Lee-Enfield Mk I last week with M & D on the stock and a mint 1896 bayonet. I have been looking for one in that condition for 30 years and when it came along I couldn't pass it up. I had to sacrefice some good guns but they can be replaced. It's a Gooood Day when a fine example comes along. This one is a keeper. Now I need a good Martini for my collection, I sold 12 of them at the same time I sold off my Snider Collection. I guess when it comes to renovations and bieng disabled something has to give.

i to have had lotsa fun shootin the old sniders. Kerry at grandforks sure helped me out to begin with to get started. i would recomend anyone wanting to buy a good mould , buy the one he sells, it will make them old rifles shoot very well.
magtec brass is the answer, but takes some work to get in shape.it does take some work to get into shape, but it seems to fit/ work the best once your there.

Keep in mind that the Snider bullet used either a wood or clay plug in the base to make sure the bullet skirt expanded reliably to grip the rifling. I believe someone makes a mould for a bullet that is slightly larger in diameter than the one used in the muzzle loader. I bought my mould from a friend who designed it and had RCBS make up a batch. They may still stock it.

LEE PRECISION now makes dies for .50 BMG, .577/450 MARTINI-HENRY, and .577 SNIDER. They are $100US and are 1 1/4 x 12, not 7/8 x 14, you would need the RCBS with the removable bushing or the Lee Classic with the removable bushing. Higginsons may have or can get them.
one of the tricks to making a snider shoot, is to throw away the .577 mini -hollow base mould that most use. get one that kerry sells, its a .590 mould, solid base. most sniders measure over and or around the .590 mark.i have seen some as big as .613. this mould has taken me from total frustration, to being able to hit the 300 yd gong with great regularity.
