I've been thinking about picking up a bucket or two of the 22LR Golden Bullets. But seems hard to find any information on them. I know they are about 1250fps. But that's fine for a .22 right?
Anyone have opinions on this stuff? Price seems right.

Well, every rifle is different. Yours may like the GB's. I would suggest getting a large piece of paper and making a target it test your rounds.
My 10/22 love's Stingers, which is odd, as I thought being "hyper" velocity they'd be all over the place. I'm glad anyway, cuz' I use them for wood rats all the time. On the flip side, a friend of mine's 10/22 hates the stingers, and loves the Elley match ammo.

This is a target I used 2 years ago, maybe longer. Took me all of 10 minutes to hack this up.

Although the Golden bullets are not on this chart, they were out on the percurser target to this one. But, I do still have that target, if you're interested in what I was able to do with them.

Well, every rifle is different.

Exactly. And there is no way to tell if yours will be accurate with Brand X until you try. That's part of the fun!

I will say that I've had disappointing function and accuracy from every kind of Remington bulk pack ammo in every 22 I've ever had.

People seem to universally love the Blazers (in the 500 packs, NOT the 525 packs), and they seem to work in just about everything. But they're a bit more pricey than the bargain bin stuff.

In my case, I regularly shoot a 10/22, a Savage Mark II, and a Norinco m93. I run AE 40gr LRN, Blazer (500 pack), and CCI Minimag (solid and HP). Each with 100% reliability in my guns, but at different pricepoints and correspondingly better accuracy.

Your mileage WILL vary!

It actually was a lot of fun trying 10 or so different brands of ammo, and marking the results. My comment about them not being very accurate was based on using them in 2 different semi's and a bolt. They didn't seem to shoot "stellar" in any gun I used them in. Sad, cuz' they're cheap.

If something shoots great, but isn't very reliable, that may also be something to consider.

I've long used Remington Game Loads on gophers because they ran great and really stop the little bastards. I have since switched to the Winchester 555 and hv. They are cheap, always cycle and fire in my .22's and stop the little bastards with a good shot every time. I hate hate hate when they run off into their holes.

I have 4 .22's. A Stevens 87D, Remington 550-1, (both from the 50's), a CZ 455 Lux and a 10/22 (which are both under 5 years old). Somehow, I've lucked out and they all run Winchester Powerpoints (37 or 40grain) really well. When I had bought the Lux, I also picked up all sorts of 22lr to see what it shoots best. There weren't any really bad shooters, but somehow the Remington ended up near the bottom. A year later the pattern repeated itself in the 10/22 on my first trip out. It was a used but well looked after, and the PO had good luck with the Winchester as well. Stingers did very well, as well as the Winchester and maybe a bit better, but I really couldn't justify having them just for one rifle. I also had more than a few bricks of the Winchester around. Keep in mind none of the other ones I tried was match grade or subsonic ammo, all stuff for turning gophers and squirrels inside out which is really the main reason I have .22's.

The first box of CCI Blazer 525 box was great. Bought another box and seriously just tempted to leave it at the range for someone else to pick up. So covered in wax its ridiculous, jams up both my semi autos after about 20-30 rounds it starts to misfire, jam, get weird haywire shots, never buying it again just because of that one bad box. So if you see a box left behind anywhere in Edmonton or area dont think you scored finding it, it was abandoned on purpose and you can jam up your gun with it now lol.

I love my .22 lr's, but if you really wanna stop the little b*stards in theyre tracks use a .22 WMR. Yes more expensive but wow what a difference.

Ive read tons on .22lr ammo and tried just as many in my .22's..... You want a great bang for your buck?...... Cabelas has winchester wildcat on for like $19.99 for a box of 500. Ya, laugh it up if you want. I have a matchgrade .22 and a 10/22 and this stuff is pretty damn accurate i must say. I sighted my scopes in with pretty good ammo i.e.: cci mini mag, american eagle etc. compared it to the wildcat and not to shabby. Definately great for gophers, magpies, or even just shooting paper at the range. I thought it being cheap its gotta be crap! not always the case, try it and let me know what you think if you havent already.

Found the 40 grain game loads to be just to dam dirty. After 100 rounds my receiver is caked in gunk. Had a few that must have not had powder in them or very little they sounded like the primer only went off. Seem to be alright for accuracy but the inconsistency is pretty bad. I don't know if these are considered golden bullets though?

I bought a pail of the Remington Golden Bullets, and they generally function fine in my 10/22 (less than a year old) but every once in a while they jam hard into the stock magazines and fail to feed. It takes a LOT of force to get them out when they stick. Also, the bullets are really loose in the brass, you can shake the cartridge and watch them wobble. Do I still shoot them? Yes. Do they kill gophers? Yes. Will I buy another pail of them? Probably, its a good price for cheap ammo, just don't expect match grade performance.
