Because they didn't want Iraq to become too strong either. Remember, Iraq was a socialist state and an ally of the Soviet Union. The Americans were quite happy to see the conflict drag out without either country getting the upper hand....which is exactly what happened.

Actually, the US had stopped funding Iran after the revolution, they had been the single biggest supporter of the Shah (Saudi Arabia was #2) which was why Iran had so much broken down US gear when they were re-enacting WW1 in the desert vs. Iraq.

So how about getting back on topic? Ill be getting a few hundred dollars in the next week or so to play around with and a handgun is what I want. I could go Tariq , or if i went for a non-9mm, I could look at a Norinco 1911 or Hi-Point in .45 or .40. I still think the Tariq would be my best bet out of them
Ellwood Epps still show 5 Good condition ones in stock under used handguns on their website. Going for $349 - same as the original price from Tradex. Frontier's website shows a bunch (20) in stock for $429 in Good condition, $369 for Fair which are missing emblem on one grip, apparently.

I received mine yesterday. Replublican Guard marked. Seems to be unfired. Trigger is a little heavy, but othewise feels like a quality piece of kit. I might have to buy another as a "shooter" piece.

As of Thursday, Epps only had 3 left, and I actually wasn't impressed with their condition - they were pretty well used. From the pics, weimajack's look like they're in much better shape - I was happy to pay a bit more to buy one that's in better condition from him.
Haven't seen the ones Epps have, so if that is the case then I would definitely agree. It's definitely a plus being able to see the exact pistols that weimajack has, without having to wait or just take a blind leap of faith!
Fortunately I think my dad and I did pretty well considering we did the latter with Tradex. Certainly for the price they were at. But reading this thread is making the wait to get over and actually see it seem all the longer.

I bought mine from TradeExcanada - I imagine that it was one of the last few they had. The finish appears to be a cross between bluing and parkerizing (black oxide?). Grips are pristine.
I guess every military hat can not defeat the Americans is a Joke. Makes for a pretty short list of collectors items.

What about this?: the Russians won in WWII, but did not win in Afghanistan, and neither will the Americans, Canadians, Brits, etc...

I actually possess one - I've seen and handled it and I like it. It's tight, and fits the hand nicely- I'll get to shooting it soon and will report back. I don't care how it shoots, because I bought it to collect and shoot for fun, not competition. Just because it's not collectible to you doesn't mean it's not collectible.
