Anyone shooting a 6.5STW?

So I've been thinking of having a 6.5 STW built. Anyone out there shooting one and would they be willing to share some of their load recipies with real world data? I've been reading some info that seems to be all over the place on this cartridge, would be nice to hear from some guys who are actually shooing it.
Also anyone out there know where a guy might be able to track down a reamer for this cal?

order your own reamer and headspace gauges from pacfic tool and gauge or JGS. they will make one.

Go with minimum twist 1:10... anything tighter and your bullets will just disintegrate

buy two barrels... outrageously overbore cartridge .
 
PTG will make you a reamer if they don't have one in stock. Overbore? Sure, but less than a 7mm Rem Ultra Mag. Barrel life will be shorter, but if used as a hunting rifle it should do for a good number of years. Don't necessarily believe what is posted above about the 1/10 twist and bullets disintegrating. There are many articles about super fast 6.5's with 1/8 and 1/9 twist barrels that are working well. I would use a 1/9 myself. This is a cartridge I would like to try myself some day.

This information is largely erroneous and misleading.

I would opt for a 8.5 or 9" twist for this rifle.
You will not likely have many "disintegrating" bullets.

It will be hard on throats, but I would guess it will be fine for 12-1500 rounds if not shot till the barrel is too hot.

That is a lot of shooting, BTW.

Case capacity of a 7mm rem mag is 84 grains of H20. 6.5 STW is 99. it sure as hell IS more overbore. as for twist, do the math as to what constitutes optimal stability. DOn't take my word for it

You do know what a 7mm RUM is, don't you? As for the twist issue, I shoot 40 gr bullets from a .223 with a 1/7 twist. This is well over DOUBLE what is required to stabilize them. They still shoot 1/4" groups at 100 yds and my bullets don't disintegrate in mid air.

Not for very long. I made a 6.5/270 WSM. Pooched the barrel in some testing and a couple of F class matches.
 
Thanks guys. I've got a gain twist barrel from Ron Smith in the mail right now. Its has a 1-2 gain twist in it, so it starts as a 1-16 and finishes at a 1-8 twist. Hoping that'll do the trick nicely. Would anyone whos actually shot the cartridge be willing to give me some load data that you may have on the rifle, either through this thread or through PM? It would be greatly appreciated as getting reliable info on this cartridge seems to be a bit challenging.

The very fact that you would admit this makes you more of a man than some on here. Glad we are close to on the same page anyway!:wave: I have gotten a trimming a few times when I needed it too. Better to admit to our mistakes and move on than beat a dead horse. I would still argue about what's more overbore, but that's OK!:)
