I just bought a Sako heavy barrel single shot in 22 PPC, It's a gorgeous rifle with a very low round count and I just couldn't pass it up but now i'm wondering if it will fit in around here, I don't have prairie dogs around here so I only hunt coyotes and wolves, I do have a pretty good range 50 feet from my door but I always tended to use big cartridges and wacking steel etc, there is no chance of any competitions or anything around here.

Disposable income is very limited with an upcomming wedding but I'd appreciate any feedback to make me justify keeping this beauty in the safe if thats the right thing to do.

If you don't think you should keep it, DON"T shoot it! It will probably be the most accurate rifle you will ever own.

22PPC can be a bit picky finding the "best" load, but once you do :dancingbanana:

Go shoot it. It will work just fine on yodel dogs. Very accurate once you get a load worked up, yes they are a bit finicky, more so than its big brother in 6ppc.

DO NOT sell that gun! Try Hornady 52 BTHP with 31 grains of CFE-223... and then try to wipe the smile from your face!

I found some more info on this.

The serial number on 22PPC is A496, That makes it an L461, one of the later ones as they where only made from august 10 1987 to april 15 1988 and they only made 553 of them. The round count on it is 460, previous owner bought it new and kept good records.

I'm really wanting to keep it but the wedding bills are piling up, I will hold on for as long as I can and see if I can free up some cash somewhere else because I really think that once the snow melts from my 400 yard range and I can put it through it's paces it will turn out to be a treasure.
