Anyone know how bad the 7.62x39 is on coyote pelts when loaded with the 123 grain VMAX? Kind of thinking of using a handloaded SKS for coyote, but I'd like to hear others' experience with this before I go out and buy reloading supplies...

Thanks!

I would also like to know since I have a box of Hornady 7.62x39 with SST bullets for coyotes as soon as the big game season is over.

there's quite a difference between 123gn V-Max and 123gn SST folks. You should not use V-Max bullets on big game. You will quite possibly get inadequate performance since they are built for a varmint round. That being said, the 110gn V-Max in my .308 perform quite spectacularly on 'yotes.

Although I have not used the SST's on deer, I have used the Interlock's in my SKS. Decent performance on 2 does out to 150yds, both bullets recovered, proper expansion noted, dual lung shots, and about 55% retained weight. Neither went more than 75yds before laying down.
One 80yd shot in particular on a 180lb buck was noteworthy. Broadside heart shot, buck went 75ft. Bullet went through both sides and was found under the skin on the far side. Still weighed 65gns.
