Is there anyone still using Winchester hand fed electric trap machines? If you are, how many traps do you use? How many targets do you throw a year from each? Where are you located? Please send me a PM.

Thanks a lot,

Ian Brotherston

i think my club still has 1 western machine that's hand fed, the other 2 western machines in the skeet houses i think has a single stack loader thingy....

we don't use the hand fed much cuz its a pain in the butt to have someone sit in the house to feed it...

Yep we still use our Winchester hand fed trap. Can't afford one of those new babys, anyway we only launch about 5000 birds a year so a new one is not needed. The machine is 35 years old and functions flawlessly. Our club shuts down for the winter. We operate Apr. 15 to Nov. 15 anually. The Skeet field has 2 single stack Winchester machines also and they do the job. The Labrador Trap & Skeet Club is located in Labrador City NL.

I belong to several clubs and they are almost all free of using Winchester traps. I am presently sitting on the board of directors at the Hamilton Gun Club and we have purchased 12 Pat Traps that are going to be in place in May. We are tearing up 12 of our trap fields and redoing the traphouses and installing the new machines all with voice release Cantiberrys. Our issue is a safety issue with trap kids. We can get ourselves and the club in serious trouble should the kids get hurt in the traphouse.

That being said I also shoot at clubs that can not afford the change over and they are still using Winchester traps and they are running without any troubles whatsoever. Smaller clubs are just happy that they exist and are able to shoot at some targets and I support them as much as possible. The one club as also spent 2200.00 to convert the Winchester trap over to an automatic which is an alternative to purchasing the more expensive Pat Traps.

Regards,
Sam

Our Club has one Trap machine which happens to be a Western. Its hand fed because were only a small Club 11 members. We throw approximatly 8-10,000 clays a year. We are located in Timmins Ontario

I think that you'll find that Ian is the guy who markets the Carousel that converts the WW traps to automatic.I've seen one at our club and they're a pretty nice looking unit.

We still have 4 WW hand set machines that we use on weekly basis. We through over 100,000 targets a year. We also have Pat Traps and Beomat traps. I tried talking our exectutive into getting a couple of Ians conversions but they want new traps. I thought they were a good idea since all our WW were rebuilt 3 years ago and should be good for awhile considering it was 30 years before the first rebuild.

Thanks Dave,

Tim they can automate all 4 of their WW handset machines for the price of one PAT trap. Plus without all your resources tied up in trap equipment you'll have more to spend on attracting new members to the club, diversify your shooting activities, cater to shooter interests, renovate the clubhouse, buy more property etc. The honeymoon period on new equipment doesn't last long. Better have something left to keep them coming back.
