Anyone tried a 375 WSM?

Chased this idea myself. The Google fu stuff on the interwebs basically says that Win quit at 8mm as the case suffered too much powder cramping from large projectiles above .323.

That does not appear to be true. Wondering if people then get bullets seated really far out...and custom throats to accomodate this.

It all depends on your expected velocity. Winchester couldn't make a .338 WSM to match the .338 Win Mag so from a marketing standpoint it was worth it. If you accept that it's going to me more like a .338-06 then you won't be disappointed.

Negative there nws..........never sold it and not likely to either, in fact I bought another one a while back.........one of my mod 7 MS is a 350 RM.

Slimbo.......don't need to sell any to fund new projects, just need to get motivated.........have everything to make the 416 WSM or 416-350 RM, short 700 action with magnum bolt, 416 barrel blank and several stocks.........all I really need is a reamer and the ambition to move forward with it..........Wife is killing me with the honey-do list and I have become a slave to my property........never have time for my hobbies anymore.......the closest I get to my guns lately is posting on here a few minutes here and a few minutes there..............
 
I figured...was just trying to get some kind of angle to talk you out of that KS.....I think it would make a mean chopper gun. Sounds like your in the same boat as my old man. Thanks for the BRNO stock by the way...it's being bedded and crossbolted by Mr. Leeper as we speak.

By that logic the 300 WSM (or as it should be known, 300 H&H Really Short) shouldn't have made it out of bed.
 
No brand new cartridge family is complete without a 30 cal.

Seems strange that the 270 wsm appears to be the fan favourite of the bunch.
 
Closest I came to a 375WSM was back in Oct 2010...

I was dreaming of what a cool case/bullet combo it would make so I installed a 375 cal bullet into a 300WSM case but that was as far as that dream got too.

Flanked by a 375RUM & 375H&H.

Heres some velocity numbers (not mine, although I considered a 375 WSM at one point) Pretty good numbers, I thought. Redding makes dies for the 375 WSM and the 416WSM too.

270 gr. Hornady 2631 fps SD of 11
260 gr. Nosler 2673 fps SD of 08
250 gr. Kodiak 2702 fps SD of 05
235 gr. Speer 2840 fps SD of 17
 
 
^ Cartridges of the world lists a 35 WSM and the 35 Sambar. They appear to be the same thing, but the sambar has more loads. Did you find an differences between them while pursuing the project? What am I missing here?

Same cartridge the Sambar was made in Australia and has a good reputation. Basically a 300 WSM necked up. When I built my 9.3 it was a toss up between that and a 416. The 9.3/300 WSM is a reckonized factory cartridge in Europe, I can't recall the name thou
 
The thing about the WSM's...

Great idea, short cartridge means more barrel to pick up speed, or shorter barrel required for the same effect,
And, short cartridge means less action length which reduces weight.

Unfortunately this may also mean a beefier action for the larger ammo, as compared to say a ..308 win based cartridge, heavier action with the savage for instance. Smaller magazine capacity because of the fat ass bullets. You end up with a rifle that's just as heavy as a long action practically, with about the same length barrel anyways, and less rounds in the mag, so know you have a few extra rattling around in your pocket, ain't much for cheap WSM ammo these days either.

Having said all that, I still think how handy a Browning BAR rebarreled to .375 WSM with a 5 round mag would be in a few circumstances.

Not sure why the steyr was brought up as a comparison, kind of like comparing a .308 win to a .300 win
