hey guys, just wondering if anyone has one of the new for 2011 Bushnell Elite scopes. I understand Bushnell is eliminating the 3200/4200 series and going with the new model which is just called the 'Elite'. It would seem to be the a renamed 4200 with new optical coatings.
Was wondering what the impressions were from anyone who actually has used one?

thanx

You're right, these are the 4200s with a few tweaks, which, IMHO, are an excellent scope.

Instead of the 3200, which also were darn good, believe the Trophy XLTs are the next level down now.

Yes, OFN.

They're a little improved. Mostly a way to take the brand more upscale and charge more.

They still have the same horrible eye relief that prevents you from mounting them on a savage long action without offset rings or bases.

Even the lower end Bushnell Banner has a satisfactory eye relief and doesn't have this problem.

Personally, I would go with Leupold and get those nice screw in alumina caps for hunting!

Although I purchased an older 6500 Elite Tactical 4.5-30x50 which only has 50moa of adjustment I recently saw one of the new ones with 90moa of adjustment.
It looks like the same scope with more adjustment.

Someone was mentioning eye relief.
Mine has nearly 3" of eye relief and I'm very happy with it.

While there could be a bit more I do not find the eye relief bad. I've had 4200's in 3x9 and a 4x16 on a savage long action without probs. I do use a picatinny rail for mounting. I'm just mentioning this in case anyone is put off a 4200 thinking they have terrible eye relief. They really are a pretty decent scope for the money. But there are scopes out there with better eye relief.

To be clear, most scopes have better eye relief, even cheap banners.

Yes you can mount to long actions using a rail or offset base or ring but shouldn't have to.

I have two savage 111s. One with an elite 3200 which will require the above mentioned hardware to shoulder normally and one with an $89 banne which works fine with standard bases thanks to it's adequate eye relief.

OP, I have never tried a new Bushnell Elite so please forgive me if I'm going off on a tangent.

With regard eye relief. I own 3 4200's. Two of which I have mounted on a savage long action and both provide sufficient eye relief to comfortably shoot a 300 WM without fear of scope kiss. I believe the typical specs for the 4200 eye relief range from 3.3 to 3.9 inches. Not fantastic but reasonable for most situations. I do have a few scopes other than the 4200's to compare.
