Anyone tried out a "gen 4" Glock 17?

I haven't shot one but I held a glock 17 gen 4 at Target Sports, wasn't comfortable for me - the angle of the grip was different too. Looks like you are in the GTA so it shouldn't be to far of a drive for you to check it out there (probably can rent it under their supervision too)
I for one love the ergos on the new Gen 4. The angle, size and texture of the grip without any inserts, which would be the "smallest" grip option, feels perfect. I have owned every previous generation of 17 and sold them all, as they never felt "right" to me. However, it's like Glock fixed everything I didn't like about the Glock 17 with this new model.

i loved it.
then again, i was comparing it to a glock 22 (.40) so it's apples and oranges...

Well, not quite apples and oranges.
I am curious has to how it felt in your hands. It is in the back of my mind that I would like to replace Emily's M&P40 with a Gen 4 Glock, for the sake of commonality.
And I can't believe that Jim takes you out shooting more often than me.

I haven't shot one but holding it in my hand vs a Gen3 makes very little difference for me to switch.
There's more rubbing parts from the trigger group to the slide as well. Only time will tell if they're more perfect than Gen3s...

I had the choice to get the gen4 17 but went with the gen3 RTF2. I just love the rough grip on it. Sticks to your hand like glue. Not for the faint at heart though.

Which Gen4 cause I've read that the new spring does nothing for the g17.
the gen4 has a textured grip as well though... you just preferred the gen3 type?
never shot the rtf2 but after about 100 rounds through a gen4 i found the rough texture on the backstrap irritating my baby soft paper pushing hands a little bit
ive put a few 100 rounds through each version (G17) back to back and i definitely noticed a difference in recoil. i preferred the gen4.
edit: mind you the gen3 i shot is VERY WELL used, and the gen4 is BRAND new, so that will make a difference in most aspects including probably recoil.

I own a Gen4 Glock 22 (and have put far more than my fair share of rounds through Gen3 Glock 22's and previously owned one)
I've got big hands and without a backstrap, the smaller grip reduces the amount of Glock bite I get.
With the medium backstrap, the size/angle is essentially the same as a Gen3 and the large is the same as a full size Glock 20/21.
The texture is just fine, but I'm not picky there, I've never had an issue being able to grab and hold on to things. I couldn't feel any difference after a couple hundred rounds but I'm just a big ape.
I shot a Gen3 and a Gen4 Glock 22 back to back. The recoil difference with the new dual recoil springs is negligible.
So really the Gen4 gives a bit of a texture difference and options for Short Frame, Regular Frame and Large Frame grips.
The BBQ has propane, Beers in the fridge, bring Emily out and see how it fits. Though we should hit the range soon.... (and for the record Amy is far easier on the eyes as a range partner than you!)

I finally held one (small grip) the other day and loved it compared to a Gen 3. The large grip on the G3 has always been the deciding factor in not buying one, so I figure I'll probably pick up a G4 at some point.

The texture of the RTF2 is different feeling and sticks to your skin more than the Gen4. It's almost like velcro male and your skin is the other female part of the velcro. For ppl with very soft hands the RTF is too rough I've heard. I don't have such hands so it's great for me.
I like the G4 G17 more for the fit in my hand. The felt recoil is less as well. I am only 5'2" so every thing to reduce felt recoil helps.
I was shooting a G2 G17 that was a hand-me down when I first was learning to shoot. The recoil and the fit for me as a woman make the G4 better than the G2 I was shooting.
I used my Gen4 G17 during the Glock armorers course and instructor workshop a couple weeks ago.
There's one small piece on the trigger bar that contacts the slide more, that does increase the trigger pull slightly, but isn't a big deal to me anyway. I'm going to install a '-' connector, and that should put it somewhere between the triggers on my RTF2 and G34.
I also like the bigger mag release. It's easier to reach without changing the grip too much. I like to put the Vickers mag release on my Gen3 guns.
I preferred it without any backstrap. It feels and fits a little better.
The gun shoots really nice as well. I think it's a bit more accurate than my RTF2 at distance(25m), but not by a whole lot. Both are easy to make head shots with.
In faster drills, my splits are typically in the .17 to .19 second range. I got down to a fastest of .14 with the Gen4, even with the supposedly worse trigger.
I'm really happy with it. In fact, I like it so much, I think I'm going to get rid of my holy grail(G34) and get at least one more Gen4
