Anyone tried out a "gen 4" Glock 17?

The texture of the RTF2 is different feeling and sticks to your skin more than the Gen4. It's almost like velcro male and your skin is the other female part of the velcro. For ppl with very soft hands the RTF is too rough I've heard. I don't have such hands so it's great for me.

One man said "I don't have soft womanly hands, I can handle the RTF2".
The other man said "I don't have a week womanly grip, so I don't need all this extra grip to hold a gun that's already quite grippy.
And the woman just laughed.

Well, not quite apples and oranges.

I am curious has to how it felt in your hands. It is in the back of my mind that I would like to replace Emily's M&P40 with a Gen 4 Glock, for the sake of commonality.

And I can't believe that Jim takes you out shooting more often than me. :p

heh, i wasn't playing with jim's toys this time around. i outsourced :p he missed the 'Omg face' too bwahahahah

i was actually missing the girth of the 'standard' glock when i held it. i'm sure i'd get used to it, but i found it like stepping down to a 250cc after riding a 600 if you know what i mean. i'd be concerned about getting used to a 'mini me' gun and then finding shooting a 'regular sized' gun difficult. i would need to keep playing with the big boy guns to make sure i didn't lose my mad skillz...:p

i was happy with the 'lack' of recoil with the gen 4 but since i was shooting .40 glock before and then played with the 9mm, i'm not quite sure about how much recoil is common in the glock family between calibers. i shot an m&p 9mm and a hk usp expert 9mm all the same day, and the gen 4 was my favourite of those three.

like i said, apples and oranges. more shopping needs to take place, but gen 4 is high on the list!

I guess you have the soft girly hands that can't handle the grip of the RTF2. Lol. If the grip of the regular gen3 is already grippy enough why do most ppl using it for competition put on skateboard tape?

I don't know, I've never been able to figure that out. I'll just settle for calling them girly men! :D

(Actually, when shooting in the rain, a bit of extra grip is nice. A wet grip is pretty slick so the RTF would definitely kick ass there).

they must have something

Friday went to target sports, and one of the guys was doing the transfer of 8 generation 4. I said "hey is everybody buying the gen 4 or what?" the answer was "shoot these are the last one:runaway:s of like 20 this week".

Kind of strange, over at sigforum.com there is a forum about "closet Glock lovers" ... I am surprised at the number of people who really like Glocks on a Sig forum.

I've had a Gen3, I own a Gen4, I've put thousands of rounds through a bunch of Glocks. I also own a Sig P226 Elite, it's a beautiful piece.

Both are great guns in their own right.

Anyone who is a "This is *the* gun to own and *the* only gun to own" is pretty closed minded.

I agree, and understand each is a great gun in its own respect.

From my personal opinion though what attracts me to a Sig is the complete opposite to that of a Glock. I think the only thing I lke about them is their pricing, wish I could pick a new Sig up for $700 :D

I'm really happy with it. In fact, I like it so much, I think I'm going to get rid of my holy grail(G34) and get at least one more Gen4

Hey WP,

I have the Gen 4 17 as well as a G34. Since there is no Gen 4 G34 yet, I just switched the 34 top onto the Gen 4 lower and it worked beautifully.
