anyone try loading airgun bb's in a shotgun?

i had a couple air rifles/pistols a few years ago and i found some .177 cal copperhead bb's that i have left. im able to fit 62 bb's in a 12gauge shell. i'll be shooting them out of my stevens 311 SxS 12g wich had the barrels shortened to 24" so theres no choke to worry about. i know people who have loaded airgun bb's in a shotgun before, and they said its just like shooting heavy steel shot. im wondering if anyone on here did it before and if so what powder/charge did you use and how good was the pattern?
And would they be any good for duck/goose hunting?
 
I've thought about it many times but never tried it as of yet. The copper shouldn't damage your barrel at all and if you have a steel rated choke then it will handle copper no problem.

Just find the weight of BB's you can fit and look up load data for that shot weight. I would go with steel shot data and not lead since you don't really need the thick cushion wads for harder shot.

BB's designed for BB guns very often have much smaller/fewer imperfections so my guess would be that it would pattern very well.
 
BB's for air guns are made of steel with a copper or zinc coating. Load as for steel shot. I'd recommend shooting through a barrel designed for steel shot.
 
I would worry about damaging the choke even an improved cylinder choke. Air gun BB are harder than steel shot and may not compress as well. I think google is your friend here and worth looking up before going too far.
 
Airgun BBs are much harder steel than the soft iron used in "steel" shot. Really good chance that the bore will be scored.
 
Often real shot is difficult to find in small towns. I actually had to take up diving so that I could run across to the US and pick up some bags of lead shot to fill my weight belt.
 
i loaded some plastic airsoft pellets on a few. they were so light that once they seperated from the wad they went everyware. kinds cool when you can see your pellets in flight
