I thought this might be a neat kit for a bubba Enfield...has anyone here tried it?

There are a couple of good features on the No.4 .45cal kit from Rhineland. Looking at the pictures, I like the use of a Savage style barrel nut. The thread can be cut longer than reqd without worrying about headspacing or a shoulder, and the nut covers any "leftover" threads. The magazine pinned to a blank magazine body is better than trying to source another trigger guard and fit it so the trigger pressure works properly.

If .45cal wasn't so hard to find, I might get a conversion made up.

I too was entertaining the idea of building a 45 ACP rifle from Rhineland. Since I am already an 45 ACP single stack IPSC shooter, having a bolt rifle that uses my mags and my fav caliber just made sense. I could also imagine using it as a bush gun to shoot deer!!

I"ve got a Bubba'ed Enfield and I too was thinking of the Rhineland kit. I'd like to hear more from those who have done the conversion.

I've drooled for one of those kits...Century Arms sold a complete converted .45acp Enfield rifle a few months ago and then stopped. I called them and they said they were too hard to make so they dropped them.
Personally I'd love to have one of these as I reload .45acp and it would get away from the lets look for .303 ammo nightmare I currently can't wake up from...

Regards,

Thats nice, but I can't say much for the accuracy unless you are using a hollowbase bullet. .45 Long Colt mikes out at .451, and the martini bore is closer to .459,.461

Look a bit dodgy to me:

Front sights now in stock both the "Drill and tap" and the "Solder" options available, you can even epoxy them in place. Ejectors are now included in the kit. These are simply pins driven into the adapter behind the 1911 magazine. These work well but you need to remember to #### the bolt fast. Also the ejectors work very well for all but the last round.

45 acp conversions

I bought one 2 years ago from Rhineland arms direct to my Michigan address. Can't mention the importing due to gunnutz rules. Installed the kit on a '43 LongBranch Bubba and half-assed headspaced it. At that time they hadn't gotten around to the pin fixing the ejection problem so you'd have to pull back the bolt quickly and hold it on it's right side so it wouldn't cause jamming and the casing would drop out. The mag was of good quality as was the aluminum insert but it was like they hadn't thought through the ejection issue. I sold it for a loss on the site and it sold right away - go figure. Anyways, If I recall I think I bought it for $180 US and I think that if they could figure out a better way of ejecting the empties it would be worth that price. The template that came with the kit involved using a dremel tool to change the ejector specifications and with a little time it worked well. Some guys at the club thought it was really neat for about 5 minutes and then the novelty wore off. No recoil to speak of and a neat "pop" when it fired as a muzzle report. Been there, done that, bought and sold the t-shirt. If it's not reliable, it isn't in my safe. Now if a Canadian firm wants to get the ejection right and start producing some reliable kits, I'd be first in line- Dlask, are you listening?
