Anyone try the TC pro hunter?

I got my prohunter last year in 30.06 from Sir...

its shooting .4" groups with 168 barnes triple shock bullets and imr 4350...

my first batch of reloads was not too impressive but im a newbie loader.

I went back and did it agian but loaded up .5 grain increments and bougth a led sled too!

boy does it shoot great now! I got my first black bear with this setup at 20 yards!!!!!!!!!! ran another 20 or so and flipped over!

this will be my go to rifle for many years im thinking!

way over priced for what you get IMHO. Every barrel you want costs as much as a good used bolt gun on the forum here plus you need bases rings and a scope for each barrel unless you want the pain in the a$$ of sighting it in every time.
In a perfect world and on all the hunting shows you see one shot kills but in alot of hunting situations its nice to have 2 or three to follow up on quickly.
Savage makes a cleaner faster muzzleloader, Ive owned a T/C Muzzleloader and it wasnt the holy grail of smokepoles it was very inconsistant and sucked to clean.
Who really wants to own only 1 gun with a bunch of barrels laying around anyway....pretty boring Id rather have a safe full of variety to fondle:D

X2 for savage. I've had TC's for frontloaders and you can keep them. If you want a centerfire go with a bolt or other repeater otherwise whats the point.

As was said earlier real hunting is not an edited TV program and you will require more than one shot sooner or later. We all like to thump our chest and brag about out perfect shot placements and so on but lets be real eh boys.

I've never even seen this gun on the "hunting shows" I've just always loved the simplicity of the break action, all my shotguns are break-singles and I finally got myself a break-single in a rifle caliber (the pro hunter) and I'm glad I did. As for follow-up shots, it's really not that hard (or slow for that matter) to break open the action and swap out rounds, thats the least of my worries......It has to be a shooter though, if I know where that bullet is going everytime I pull the trigger with no surprises but "shooter-error" then I'll be a happy camper and this rifle will probably never leave my collection.....Anyways, as soon as I get this thing setup and too the range I'll post back on here and let you know how this beauty shoots.

My cousin bought one in 22-250 from S.I.R.this winter.

Tried five or six different kinds(different brands and bullet weights) of ammo in it and so far it sure is not impresive in the accuracy department.I believe somewhere around three inches is about the average.

Reason that i am posting is that besides the poor accuracy the point of impact keeps changing alot also.He will get it sighted in as good as he is able with the way it groups. Then maybe say the next day it will be as much as 8 inches or more up,down, left or right.

Rings and bases are tight. It has an older leupold on it but i can't remember what model.I am thinking it must be the scope or something as this dosen't sound like the norm for acurracy from most stuff i have read about them.

I remember reading somewhere that certain models of scope where only designed for rearward recoil and that putting them on a breakdown firearm caused sideways recoil(so to speak)when they were snapped shut.

Is there any truth to this??? Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem ???

I told him what i read and he is going to try another scope on it to rule the scope out.In the event it is not the problem any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks and have a great night guys.

Encores will occasionally vertically string if there is pressure on the barrel from the forestock and then a little sandpaper will fix that easily but what you are describing sounds more like an issue with optics than a rifle.

As they say, beware of the man that only carries one shot!

The multiple shot scenario just doesn't wash. Encores are quick to load if need be but should you really be taking the first shot if you are thinking about the second shot? Not me.

As for personal preference, they are definitely not for all shooters but most that malign them have never shot them. The pain of having a scope and rings arguement is lost on me. If you had two different bolt guns you'd require two scopes so why is that a draw back when you have two different barrels???

I've got an encore, one in 243 and in 7mm mag. Both are accurate enough for any hunting scenario I'll be in. With the price of rifles on the forums lately, it's almost cheaper to buy a new rifle yet alone a new barrel/scope combo.

That's what i was thinking too sheephunter.I guess he will find out when he tries the other scope.

Seems the most likely culprit for sure but it's the first one that anyone we know has owned so we were unsure if there was any other issues with them.

Thanks for the suggestion on the forestock. No you are right it is not stringing but it would still be worth a look if it turns out not to be the optics.

So If you have to have a scope for each rifle barrel as well as rings and bases and different forends to switch from muzzle to rifle what the heck is the advantage? My point is T/C toutes this great versatility but in the end its more work and cost then just having a muzzleloader, and a few centerfires.
Every other action be it bolt, pump, semi ect..will give you the option of a single shot or repeater where a single shot action will always be a single shot.
I guess for fellows who have never missed a shot in their lives, and we know that most CGN'ers never do miss (all their rifle shoot .5moa) it is the perfect gun. For the very small percentage of guys who miss from time to time , or don't kill with the first shot (gasp) a rifle with the capablities of getting a very quick second or third shoot appeals to us.
Another big problem is the a row of barrels in a gunsafe looks kinda goofy, how to you let a friend should a 7mm mag barrel w/ a scope??

Cheers!!

How does it more cost....you can't switch scopes between rifles just as you can't switch them between barrels. I still don't get where you are coming from and I can buy barrels far cheaper than entire rifles. I've got plenty of bolt actions too but just don't get your reasoning with the T/C....it's just what it is.....a great single shot with interchangeable barrels....not a miracle gun...just a quality one. As for the second shot......I guess some people don't worry about it and others do....All I know is I've never lost a big game animal because I was shooting a single shot.

There is a second shot and a third one on a Encore, it just takes a couple extra seconds...... if its a big deal, you should be hunting with a semi-auto....

You should only require two fore ends (m.l. & centerfire) or 3 if you have the shotgun bbl.
I don't find it more work in the end...???? Are we speaking from experience or was it some guys brothers friends uncle who picked one up at a gunshow and said nahh not for me??? And boy oh boy I tell ya, do them stack of barrels sure look goofy,,man...what was I thinking.

Huhh?????
I've owned my Encore way b4 the hunting show bigshots began to advertise them, I think shooting a ss maintains self discipline and self assurance thats completly my opinnion and besides don't we all believe in the ethic of fair chase......................................

Don't you ever have friends over and open up your gun safe and let them look and shoulder your rifles? Can't do that with a bunch of scoped bbls.

Shoulder Huntsman...typo mistake. You can always tell a guy who shoots a single shot, they never make mistakes they are always right and thier ethics are heavenly.:D

"you have that T/C logo branded on your ass too Huntsman" ? :runaway:

Cheers!!

A few more Jim Shockey episodes and Im running to the phone with my credit card in hand.....

Of course Ill be ordering a bunch of of Leupold optics, various crap from Cabela's and whatever else runs on the commercials that take up 75% of each 30 minute episode ;):D

But seriously the TC looks like a quality rifle that I would have to consider.

Paersonally, I buy guns because they are well made, shoot well and suit my needs. Never thought of buying them to impress my friends. As I say, each to their own.

Do you actually pay for your TC products? Your opinion of TC products is somewhat biased because they sponser your so called TV show.

Classic :D

Why do fellows take a car to a car show? Do you have any big game head mounted? How about pics from your last hunt or perhaps a video of the hunt? Do you show them to impress people?
I see nothing wrong with a person being happy with his gun collection and getting others excited about rifles. I enjoy seeing a fellow hunters collection of rifles, cycling the actions and shouldering them....Many of us dont do this in a prideful manner.

Cheers!!

I guess my problem is that I don't like too many people, therefore I rarely have anyone in my house to look at my collection of rifles, that's just the way I am. I like TC products because to me they are nice, they shoulder nice and point the way I like.
But to come back with an insult like branding a logo to my ass to get a few laughs or impress other readers...........................I guess my problem is that I don't like too many people, therefore I rarely .................................................
