Anyone use 12x Binos?

I'm considering 12x binos for spotting from the truck.

I've always went with 10x and have been told that anything more is too shaky. 10 often doesn't seem powerful enough, I'm often looking at clumps of dirt well over 500 yards out.

When sitting in a truck is 12x too much to hold still?

Haha, yeah. I use some big old optolyth 15x cannons just fine.

What brand of binos are you using now? Maybe you just need better glass, rather than more power.

I have a 12x pair of Nikon marine binos that are very large and very clear and they work fine out of the truck.

I had been using Nikon Monarch 5 10x42, before that I had used the older Monarchs in 10x42.
10x is useful but I always seem to want a little more.
But yes, for sure, I am looking for a step up in glass as well.

I don't think the difference from 10x to 12x will really amount to much.

At 500yds, 10x would look like its 50yds away, while 12x would make it look 41.6yds away. (Or at 1000yds, 100yds, vs 83.3yds)

Not really a huge difference. If 10x isn't enough, I'd consider 15x binos or a 20x spotting scope.

I have a set of 12x42 Nikon Monarch 5's. Love 'em. I don't notice any more shaking than 10X, but I'm not really a shaky guy either.

I went with a pair of Swarovski CL 10x30
I wanted better glass in a lighter smaller package.
These should be good all around for me, I will actually take them in the field.

The Swars in 12x did not really do much extra for me.
