Hi guys,

I could have access to a used Bergara B-14 HMR in 300 Win Mag. I know it is an awesome riffle so it is not the reason of my thread here ... but I feel that the riffle has more of a tactical feel. I would enjoy shooting it for sure, but I would mostly use that riffle for hunting (bear, moose, deer). I do a lot of walking around in the bushes and I am under the impression that its shape would be a bit problematic for the job.

Any of you guys use that beauty for hunting?

My other option would be a Weatherby Vanguard V2 or a Tikka T3X in the same caliber, but I could have a deal on that Bergara ...therefore my question.

Any insight will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Weight would be your biggest issue as it'll feel twice as heavy in the aft as it did in the morning. Where you plan on using it is another. Nice rifle for clear cut hunting so long as you don't have to carry it too far.

View attachment 454506i have the same gun in 6.5 prc b14 wilderness terrain. brought it up to moose camp and its way to heavy to carry. we have to walk to stands from truck usually a few killometers and said f this.once on stand was okay but for dogging and walking forget it.gun weight was 14 lbs with scope rings bases gun is 10.1 lbs with nothing on it. my 375 hh weight is less. and i dont have a bi pod either or break when i go hunting. bergara is one of the most accurate guns from the box and use it for the range when open or shoot it when im close to the truck. love it but i tried the tikka upr and its night and day from a weight standpoint with similar ergonomics and stock shape.both have chasis in stock and bergara barrel metal is very heavy. Sako feels close to same but balances better . If i had sako barrel cut same length probably lighter than bergara.

Thats the bergara next to my 338 sako trg42 not much differnce in weight and even though im over 240 and six feet you would not see me hunting with them unless in an atv or truck close to stand. Problem on line buying has been dont get to shoulder and feel gun it just cones in box . Even reviews are so biased looking on you tube those guys are so full of it they dont hunt they just buy and review .i would never had bought the bergara for the purpose of hunting where i do and style . The sako was bought strictly for bench and long range .

You could make it work if you had to but as others have said it's way to heavy to be a practical hunting rifle. Anything that doesn't involve a tree stand will become quite the chore.

I have a weatherby vanguard in 223,
i just it for target practice and varmint hunting.
It is really nice to carry and is super accurate.
I should have switched to weatherbys a long time ago.
From an old guy who has had a lot of toys.

Thank you everyone for the input. I think you guys confirmed what I thought. When I am moose hunting, I am walking few kms everyday back and forth from the spot and doing some long afternoon patrol. I will go for a lighter Vanguard of Tikka T3 Lite.

I will keep the Bergara B14 in sight, but would rather get it in 6.5 for Range shooting and varmint hunting, which require way less travel.

Again, good feedback guys!
