Anyone Use a Huglu SxS for Hunting?

I'm a bit of a new hunter and I'm looking for a 12ga. The Huglu Hammers caught my eye, anyone here have experience with them? Are they reliable? Weird quirks? Should I pick up a 20" barrel or a 30", both are threaded for chokes, and I can actually get both barrel lengths in a package for a couple hundred more. I do most of my hunting, mainly for grouse, in dense bush, otherwise the 30" would be the obvious choice. Thanks in advance!

No help on the Huglu itself but unless your shooting grouse in trees or on the ground a 20 inch barrel is a handicap for getting a smooth swing ,at least in my experience but you mileage may vary. I had a 25 or 26 inch SKB 20 gauge that I never could handle well and I believe this was due the shorter barrel. If you can try a couple of sxs guns of different barrel lengths to see if a short barrel suits you.

Not a hammer gun but it is a 20ga huglu. 26" barrels and its killer on grouse and rabbits.
I have no issue hunting with short barrels or hammers and do well with both. My 3 huglus all have 26" barrels though

There is an abundance of euro side by sides on the market, why would anyone pay MORE money for a Huglu?

Oh yeah, people have to have their screw in chokes these days.

I have one. Excellent upland gun. The quality is as you would expect. It’s quite good.
They shoulder nicely. 80% of my hunting is birds on the ground but my 28” model wing shoots nicely also.
The gun patterns quite well also.

I shot the crap out of a CZ Hammer Classic ( Huglu made) and loved that gun. Not as well intricately made or fancy as My Pedersoli, but not nearly the cost either .
Would I buy another? YOU BET!

I'm usually ground swatting. The bush I hunt in is too dense to shoot flyers, you'll hit a tree when you swing your gun. If the bush wasn't so dense, if I wasn't pushing through twigs, then I'd easily go for the 30".

CarloNord, then I think you have your answer .... right?

Here is a different perspective ..... you see I like to test drive a car before I buy it. But the places where you can test drive a gun are rare .... unfortunately.

:-(

So, for me ... every new gun purchase is a test drive .... and that gives me the opportunity to go out there and shot that gun and get a feel for it .... test it. And if that gun does not fit me .... or does not feel right .... well, then I will sell it on the EE on here. I likely have to post that gun at a lesser price for what I bought it .... I mean it is now used .... and that is ok ... and I consider that to be the price for a test drive!

Go get your 20" SxS .... consider it a test drive .... and if you feel you need a longer barrel later ... you can always sell that gun ... and get a 30" one ..... :)

Or, just by another (second) gun later ...... like most "gun nuts" on here .... ;)

Some of the guns on Prophet River are selling as a package with both the 20" and 30" barrels, which is honestly the most attractive option to me since I can't, ya know test drive. :p With the 30" barrels second, and the 20" third. I was more trying to get this thread in place to ask about the quality of the guns, and the answer to that seems to be a solid good quality. Which is great, and now it's circled back to barrel lengths, again, cause I'm super picky. :D Though selling it on the EE if I'm not a fan is also perfectly valid.

I'm still going back and forth between a Wingmaster and a Huglu, But I am leaning Huglu for the style. :D
