Anyone use a rope winch for hunting moose

I have a Lewis chainsaw winch that I bring on every moose hunt. Unfortunately or fortunately, I’ve only had to use it once so far. There’s lots instance before I bought I that I could have used but I must be like snow tires and insurance, once you have it you never need it!

I was looking at these as well but they are pretty pricey for something that I may not use. Would be nice to have if I did need it though. I was also thinking of using a 1200lb boat winch that I have and load it with 100' of mule tape and keep a few lanyards and clevices with it. Should be able to tie it to a tree and winch a critter out of the nasties. I have some experimenting to do before next fall.

I passed on a couple bulls this year that weren't in the most accessible spot for the equipment I had with me. It was a good call to pass and it worked out fine as I still tagged a moose but I will have some more rigging equipment with me next fall. I've been training with up to 100lbs on my pack but to even get these boys quartered would have been an ordeal.

I would order that winch without the twisted rope, and then buy 200 ft of 1/2" 13mm arborists braided rope
Static-type, low stretch, works better with prussicks for attachments instead of tying knots
Anchor near the winch, with a pulley at the moose nose, double the pull, double the pleasure

This is what I use as ell , prussicks and snatch blocks are your friend!
I have cleared logs out of my property for years with a rope winch , and winched animals out of bad spots, docks out of the water , trucks out of the ditch, boats off of rocks and mud bars ,and winch moose into trucks with it as well .
I value it as much as my chain saw for hunting and logging as I work mostly alone .
My winch came with Samson braid rope though not three part twisted rope.

I've seen this used before and is the creme de la creme of portable winches.
