Anyone use a shorty barrel SG for coyote hunting?

Just wondering if anyone here take a shorty SG along with them while calling coyotes for unexpected close range shots? I'm thinking it might be the thing to use when hunting with the .204 Ruger.
 
I take a shotgun, though it's not a shorty. Some day I want to build or buy a dedicated yote shotgun, and I thing I would want somewhere around a 20" barrel with rifle sights. 00 buck will drop them like a rock in and around 30-40 yards.
 
No, but i tested my 14" with the Hornady #4Buck varmint express loads, and it's the hot ticket.

There is just something about calling in close and killing them with a shotgun that I like. Maybe my trigger finger is too itchy, but if I only have my rifle, they never usually make it closer than 100 yards.

I've shot coyotes at less than 20 yards with a .22-250. One that I remember at less than 10 yards. I like calling them close too, and have had dozens inside 50 yards, but I have no desire to carry 2 guns anywhere, no matter how short the barrel is on one of them, and an appropriate rifle with appropriate sights is no handicap at short range. Go for it is you want, of course, but I just don't want the inconvenience, and I wanted to make it clear that it isn't necessary to carry a shotgun for close range shots.

I agree. Of coarse you kill a coyote at 10 yards with a 22-250, that's why mine wears a Leica 2.5-10x42 because I like the low mag and wide view. It's fun to get them close, it's even more fun to get them close and shoot them with a shotgun on a full run at 15 yards when they finally detect you. It's worth taking 2 guns in my opinion. I'm pretty sure no one thinks it's "necessary" to have a shotgun.
 
Not necessarily needed I would agree, however, I have in areas where the bush was fairly thick either behind or to the sides and felt a shotgun could be the better choice for one that's coming in. Thanks to everyone who responded :)
 
I tried the heavy dead coyote load or what ever its called. Rem 3" #4 buck is just as good for a fraction of the cost. The heavy stuff might penetrate better but coyotes aren't very thick
