Hey Guys,
I've been hunting with a Harris Bi-pod for the past 5-6 years and love having it for prone shots and for sitting shots. What I DONT like about it is having it mounted on the gun all the time for the extra weight and the fact that it makes the gun a bit cumbersome.
I'm thinking of this year switching to a detatched bi-pod or tri-pod and am seriously considering the Bog Pod shooting sticks that can be used either sitting or standing. I think for prone work I can quite easily just shoot off my pack anyways...
Anyone use these sticks? Have any comments or suggestions about going from a Harris to something like this??

I've been shooting off them a lot lately getting ready for Africa but I think anywhere that the vegitation doesn't prevent a sitting shot that I stil prefer the bipod.

Thanks TJ.....

What is the weight like on them? I know what ya mean about the bi-pod....sure is easy to get used to that rock-solid rest......

Not sure about the weight but likely 2-3 pounds.....they are fairly bulky to carry around. Great to shoot off but they'd never replace a bipod for me. I've got the two-legged version but I think three would be better. Shot the heck out of gophers to 200 yards with the 17 though off the BogPod. It's a great product for its application.

I just ordered the Bog-Pod tripod last week. I am looking forward to its arrival. I think that it will be an improvement to my single mono-pod type shooting stick.

Regards,

Chizzy

Gotl the three legged one and really like it. Very light and a lot quicker than shooting sticks once you get used to it. Bipod never really works for most hunting for me and if I would have relied on a bipod in Africa probably never would have shot anything . :D

They are pretty handy no matter where you shoot as they give you a very steady rest, especially with standing shots.

C Broad Arrow, not sure if that question was directed at me, but no, wouldn't use them hunting in Ontario. However, will use them hunting Mulies and Whitetail here in Sask. :D Have used them for gopher shoots and on a few coyote hunts.

I ordered the Stoney Point Polecat system of the tripod and the "tag along" support for the buttstock of the rifle. I figure it should work well while waiting for game or longer distance shots where the grass is too high for bipod.

...Or I just blew another $100 on gimmick marketing B.S.

Been shooting off of the tripod version for a couple of weeks now. You can lower it low enough for prone shots as well. Very stable for sitting to. I bought the quick release adabter to mount a camers/spotting scope as well. Unfortunately I just broke the "V" for shooting so I have to see if I can buy just that.

I've got a pair of the Stoney Point shooting sticks and like them. The model I have can extend from sitting to standing positions. I was kneeling and used them on my 05 mulie - worked good. I've also used them as my rest out of my blind the last couple years on our WT hunts. So to answer your question - yes to shooting sticks, no to Bog Pods.

+1 for shooting sticks. Myself, I've stayed with the shorter ones that work in sitting or kneeling positions. I've been using them now for about 7 years, and I cannot even imagine going hunting without them. Just how important they are to me became clear last year while hunting kudu. We were 15 minutes into a stalk when I discovered they had been left in the truck -- and there was no question in my mind, sprint back to the truck and get them, then resume hunting...

Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, has had a more positive impact upon my shots over 200 yards than those little sticks. I would rather hunt with bad glass, a crappy rifle, and cheap binoculars than give them up. Do I use them on every shot? No, of course not. But when there's time to deploy them, and there usually is, there's no mystery about what the outcome is going to be...

Bought mono pod sucked don't buy one, bought bog pod(dual stick) was hitting 300 yrd gong every time but once.Great purchase, pain to carry but works well.my2cents

Bog pod

I love the product we have 3 pairs of bi-pod version...very useful and work very well in the sitting position...rock solid and you dont have the extra weight to your rifle like with a Harris...they also act as a walking stick when needed...I do believe a friend of mine used them when he killed an Alaskan Brown Bear and a Cape Buffalo...

Kevin at NorthPro SPorts in S'toon sells them as well...his price was better than WSS and way better service...I do believe he will ship them as well...

Cheers
