Anyone use Federal Powershock Slugs?

If so, how do they perform? I usually use Winchester slugs, but my local Canadian Tire was sold out. I get poor performance out of Remington slugs, so I picked up some Federals. Hopefully they're on par to Winchester.

I haven't used them hunting yet, but I have to say they worked just fine for me on the target range, and made the same big holes.

My groups did seem to tighten up abit though, but this might be me getting used to the new shotgun. More range testing is needed.

slugs

Hi, I use them with my rem 870 20 gauge. The patters are way tighter than the winchesters. The remingtons are very poor, even the powder is very dirty, it looks like an old muzzle loader has went off. Smoke everywhere.

The Federals are the absolute best fostered slug I've used. These new power shoks are evn better. Federals new fostered slugs (Federal # F201RS) are suppose to be blazing out of the barrel at 1800fps as compared to the regular Power shok which does 1600 fps.

My shipment of these come in next week, I can't wait to try the 1800 fps rounds. Check out Federals home page for more info.

If you have a rifled barrel, may I suggest the Federal Barnes Expanders. They have these also in 1450 fps and 1900 fps.

Arch :D

They get the speed up on the slugs by making them lighter. For hunting big game, a 7/8 ounce slug is not a very effective deer killer at 100 yards... a 1 1/8 ounce slug is optimum for use on deer/bear.

You must have way bigger deer out there than the ones in Alberta  I personally have put a Barnes Expander completely through a Whitetail buck (rib cage and lungs) at 167 yards.

from my exprience and our hunting group, the best weight to use in slugs is 1 oz., when we used 1 1/8th oz. around every forth slug ended up being a flyer. and 1 in 3 with the regular federal slugs. I switched last year to remington slugs, and now shooting tighter and farther groups. i have to disagree that federal slugs are the best of the 3 mentioned in this post. but in saying that, i haven't tried the new ones being asked about in this thread.

as for shooting distance with slugs. I have shot and seen deer shot out to 150 yds with no problem at 1 oz. i think the weight won't matter as long as it is good shot placement.
