Anyone use these?

ACOG's are a pre 9/11 dinosaur.

Yeah but how do you have an M16 A4 clone without one? :)

Regarding the battery paranoia -- everything, except for smak_daddy's ACOG and Accupoint, takes batteries, a battery is no the end of the world.

Fixed it for ya. :p

Out of curiousity, how much do those S&B's retail for these days? I'd love one, but haven't seen one for sale.

I did not like the ACOG, too small eye relief for my taste. I had a 4x32.
I never tried the Comp m4.
I realy like my EOTech with magnifier G23FTS. The previous version of the magnifier was a pos in my book.

But I am not an expert like some previous posts, just my personnal experience.

The ACOG is a magnified combat sight - ie, it is an optical iron sight! It a 10 oz sight to replace the iron sight. It is simple and requires min. technical and ballistic knowledge to operate. That is the whole idea of all these infantry sights - Elcan, ACOG.....the crapistic Hensolt sight stuck on the G36.

A 1-4X is a variable power scope. It is a 15 to 18 oz affair + mount. It is a more precise system.

You want more out of your optic system, there will be weight penalty and demand for more ballistic knowledge. What do you want to do with your optic?? How are you going to use it? And ask the honest question do you think the extra weight will have impact on your performance or for your purpose it is really irrelevant? And the duration that you have to perform the task? Also, how much do you know and how able can you apply the ballistic knowledge?

The AccuPoint, while battery free, has no provision for BDC. The only reason I listed it is because it's great for the price point (less than half of a Short Dot II).

While we're on the topic of ACOG; The 4x32's have a pathetic eye relief (1.5"), and are outright unusable on many guns, especially in any less-than-ideal shooting positions. You wonder why you see so many pictures of Marines aiming with their A2 buttstocks off and over their shoulders? It's because they can't see the goddamn optic with armour and no LOP adjustment.

The only ACOG I would put on any of my guns would be the TA11's... every other model is either gigantic, has incredibly limiting eye relief, has too little magnification to justify having over 1-4x+, or has no BDC. And it's still a 15oz + mount affair.
