Anyone used their tricked out Norc in SCM?

With all these tricked out Norinco and SA M14s I read about here, has anyone actually gone out there and gave the AR types a good shootin' in tactical and service condition matches? I would think that those match barreled, leopold scoped laden, and sage stocked rifles would be doing serious points damage.

Anyone care to lend me one for the next SRM match?:D
 
I have no idea what SRM and SCM are, but I got fastest overall time at a 3-gun match this Sunday with my N14. Opposition was ARs, VZ/CZs, and one other N14.

My rifle's not particularly fancy.
  • USGI stock
  • SA scout mount
  • cheap Simmons 2x scope
  • Vortex flash suppressor
  • Navy front sight
  • AIA mags
  • Awesome garage Krylon paint job;)

Opposition ARs ranged from 20" rifles to tarted-up, Aimpoint-wearing 10.5" carbines. The VZs and N14 were basically stock. With 10 rd AR pistol mags available, you pretty much need the AIA mags to keep the N14 competitive in an action-type match.

At the match rifles were split into Heavy and Light depending on caliber. Full-power rifle in Heavy and intermediate rifle and pistol cartridges in Light. I was extremely surprised at how well I did against the guys with AR's. Looking at the score sheets, I held my own +/- a few seconds on the rifle-only and rifle-pistol stages against the fast AR guys.

At an action event, I still think a good shooter with an AR will hammer a good shooter with an N14. You'd have to be really sharp to beat the AR's handling and ergonomics with the N14.

At the tac-rifle match I ran last year, a Garand was fastest, IIRC. I'm there to have fun, like you, but it's very satisfying to do well with gear that's not the latest-and-greatest.
 
Hey Ton45-11, I might be joining you as another 7.62mm shooter. :D I'll leave the 5.56mm Pump 7615 in the gun vault for the time being. Too bad we have no more matches left until CFSAC/NSCC in September!

Let's celebrate!! Hungry has an M14!!! The man that goes through hell and high water to teach us the way of the 14 actually has one :dancingbanana:.

My rifle won't feel so lonely at the firing line at the next match. I dying to know what you are planning for this rifle.

It seems that the IER mounts are what works well in terms of optics on these beasts. I'm in the same camp as you. I have a Burrix 2.75X scope, USGI stock and one of those Marstar Op Rods. The 18.5" barrel looks really nice. I doubt I'll be cutting mine down. It works well for those 500+m shots.

I use mine for IPSC and Service Condition Matches with allot of great success.
Glad to see someone else is actually using their N14 to give the AR'ers some old tech as competition.

Anyone else?

What Fenix.NZ you have doubts on the flexibility of your N14? I use my 22" for IPSC rifle were targets are engaged anywhere from 5 to 100 meters without the problem of weight slowing down my speed and double taps.
 
my issue is moving and firing around obstacles as the suppressor adds an extra 4" to the OAL , it is probably light enough to swing around, just dont want to whack it on anything and knock the suppressor out or damage the end of the barrell ( probably a fear that i dont need to worry about .. but at $550 for the custom suppressor you can see why :p )

Could you take the suppressor off for the match?
 
i could, but that would screw up my zero a little.. probblay not alot/at all cos its at reasonably close range.
not that any of it matters as i dont know of any local matches of this sort :D

for a country that loves guns and has a fair ammount of either hilly country or flat open expanses.. we have half of not many rifle ranges
 
I used one of my Norc M-14's in our NRA 200m Large bore match last Sunday, the 27th.
Shot 131 out of 200, 10 sitting rapid (1 min). 10 standing slow(10 min) 10 kneeling slow (10 min) 10 prone rapid (1 min) 6" scoring ring 5 points, 12" scoring ring 4 points, rest of the paper 3 points. Several M-14's on the line, 3 of 14 shooters.
