Anyone used(using) Varget in a 30-06 (with 150 grain bullets)?

Anyone here tried using Varget in their 30-06 with 150 grain bullets (or really, I suppose, any bullet weight). If so, how did(does?) it work for you? In my 308 Win, it is stunningly good stuff: I get +- 3 or 4 FPS velocity deviation and one hole groups. However, I am somewhat concerned that in the 30-06, Varget may be a bit fast burning (and I know too-fast a powder in my 308 is bad news for accuracy), so I thought I'd ask here first before I tried it.

So -- anyone tried Varget in their 30-06? What were the results?

Thanks,

I loaded some Nolser 150 grain spitzer balistic tip for a Rem700 30-06. We started with 49 grains to 50,5 grains. I cannot do an accurate range report as I wasn't there when he took a couple of shots but he told me that these loads were very consistant and had less recoil than his usual stuff. Remington Core Lokt 165 grains.

I know catnthehatt has loaded many rounds with Varget. Perhaps he'll chime in here with his experience.

I use 4350 myself, and actually have never tried another powder in my favorite cartridge, the 30-06. This will change this year, as I've developed a healthy infatuation with majorly reduced plinking loads in the 30 caliber cartridges: 30-30, 308 and the King, 30-06.

imr4350 or h4350?

imr4350 is the natural partner of the 30-06!

Had to borrow a rifle in alberta, it was an 06 , loads were 50 gr of 4064 with a barnes x 150 bt. Was not hot, but did have some power, got my deer just fine.
varget, and reloader 15 should be in the ball park. I plan on loading for my 06 some barnes x 150 with reloader 15 , thinking on starting with 49 grains. And not to close to the lands.

IMR usually, but I owned a M70 that produced shotgun patterns with the IMR, and nice tight groups with the H-4350. I have no explanation for this anomaly; no other change to the load was made. Same bullets, powder charge (starting... I believe my final load was 1 grain different), brass, primer, OAL, neck tension.

At the time, I believe I made a thread suggesting that I was about to throw that otherwise gorgeous rifle off the bridge into the Athabasca River.

Switching powders was the answer.

i use it reloading a .303, works great never chronoéd it for consistancy but it gets good groups at 75 yards.

Thanks,

I used 4064 with a 150 grain bullet in an '06 and it worked fine. good accuracy and good speed. Varget is pretty close so should be fine for 150's .

I may have to try it as I am almost out of H4350.

Lots of guys swear by it in the 308, but in my limited experience was that everything Varget did OK Reloder 15 did great. Better accuracy, velocity and consistency.

I load 48.5 grs of varget under a 150 gr nosler BT with a winchester case and a cci large rifle primer.seated to 3.38" in my rem 700.it prints a .256" 3 shoot grouip at 100yds.

If you happen to need a rifle again when you are in Alberta, I have a 7x57 that is a tack driver, you may recognise. FS

For my M1917 (P17)

47 gr.s of Varget with 155gr BTHP Sierra or Hornady bullets. Winchester brass and primers. Beats up an x ring all day long at 100yds. Good luck!
