Does anyone use a Lee Auto-Disk powder measure with their Turret/ Challenger press?

I’m wondering if it’s accurate, are there a lot of spills? Does it speed up the presses a bit?

I use the auto disk measure on my pro 1000. The disks were not very accurate, but I switched to the adjustable charge bar. I found it works better, it seems to throw a more consistant load for me.

Like Shug says, the discs are not as accurate as Lee wants to believe, but the do get you close. Refer to the volume chart they show and do an actual check with your scale. U may want to increase your cavity size by 1 or lessen in some cases, but u must verify with the scale. Unfortunately there is a bit of spillage off them due to the gap, but the charge bar will solve that as will the upgrade kit with the neoprene seal. As for speed, u betcha its pretty quick

It all depends on the load you are seeking(usually at least a grain maybe more/less). Like I mentioned it is very important that you verify the charge with your scale. It also depends on the type of powder being used(fine/coarse). I still use mine religiously  . A charge bar is an adjustable (finger screw adjustable) volume device/cavity that takes the place of the disc and still feeds off the hopper. You can see it on the lee website. I expect they may be available in your neck of the woods from Higginsons.

I use the auto disc on two 1000's. Both work great with pistol 'ball' powders. Weights are very consistent usually within 1 tenth. Haven't used it for rifle or magnum cartridges so can't say about heavy loads though.

Progressive press is the only way to fly when loading lots of pistol ammo.

The discs may not be accurate, but they are more precise for low charge weights than the adjustable bar. Usually you need precision more than accuracy. Key is to use ball powders or a modified flake like Titegroup. Anything that flows really well.

there's other charge bars also that fit the lee- i don't remember who made mine , but it uses a screw to adjust the cavity and another screw bearing against the bar to lock it in place - once set up it can't move- and i can better than 1/10 grain adjustments- mine's a finer screw than the lee

I agree whole heartedly with the above. For low-med weight charges, I am more than pleased with the auto disc, but I would still suggest you verify the charge weight just for your own satisfaction. I pretty much run W231 or Titegroup for the most part and the loads are fairly close to as advertised. If u do go with the Lee charge bar, Higginsons does list them for $11+ and RCBS also makes one that will work. You won't be disappointed in any case..

I love how quick they are. If you absolutely have to use a certain weight, they're not for you. But if you can live with shooting 5.1 instead of 5.4, then they're golden.
I always check the first couple to make sure everything is on the up and up. I've found the disks to be about 1-2/10's on the low side. Not a problem for me.

I've been using a Lee Pro Auto Disk powder measure on my Lee 4-hole Turret press (w/auto index) for about 4 years now. The only part I've had to replace a couple of times is the neoprene seal between the hopper and the sliding disks. I tried the adjustable charge bar and found it to be inconsistent...the disks are the way to go. Don't bother with the "double disk" set for "more fine adjustments"...they simply stretch the design of the measure too far and it just doesn't work.
Richard Lee writes all of the advertising and instructions for his products, plus the parts of his Reloading manual that he hasn't simply copied. He really seems incapable of describing something in simple terms and doesn't seem to use the same nomenclature for a part twice in the same sentence. Once you have figured out what he's blathering about, his stuff works quite well.
Make sure you install the correct operating arm assembly on the Auto-Disk for a Turret Press.

If you are installing it on a Challenger single-stage press for the charging stage using a Powder-through die, you'd probably be better off with a 'stand-alone' powder measure, like the Lee Perfect Powder Measure, or better yet, a Lyman which is manually operated.
The Pro Auto-Disk is good kit, but it works best with an auto-indexing press, like the Lee Turret or a progressive press.
IAE, yes, you will still have to set up the Auto-Disk with the spring-loaded lever, not the 'plain' lever that attaches to a shell plate with a chain.

I use a Lee Perfect Powder measure with a Lee universal charging die on my Lee 4 hole turret for .30-06 with H4895 and I4895 so far. It's pretty consistant. I have it set up so it throws automatically but requires a manual reset. I did this by hooking up the bar but not the return chain. All in all it's pretty speedy. I'm loading over 100 rds of .30-06 per hour.
