Anyone using 9.3X62 maximum plus loads?

This was my ladders for the new to me 9.3x62 a custom cz500 supposedly had the work done by Ralph Martini!
Using the Hornady 286gn interlock I don’t want that load to be much faster than 2350fps and for sure less than 2400fps that will help keep that bullet together!
So I tested two powders, H4350 and ramshot big game. The rifle seem to like the H4350 a little better and I have lots of it so that is what I will go with! On the first target shots 3-4-5 are pretty much in the same hole and the velocity is 3-2338fps 64gn, 4-2390fps 65gn and 5-2413fps 66gn. So I think I will play with different loads between 64 and 65gn to keep velocity where I want it! View attachment 983656View attachment 983657
I used the 286gr interlock (9,3x64) on 2 Bull moose one at 200yds and the other closer to 300 and both time the bullet completely dis-integrated. I now use the rest of them in my 9,3x62 for Deer and Blackbear and would never consider them for Elk or Moose. Jacket is too thin and the price for them now is just outrages.

What was your muzzle velocity?

So here is what I found, a gel test,
And also a this from John Barsnes

All that to say it is the reason I wanna keep velocity bellow 2380fps. I will try and see if I can do some tests in some media dry news paper is what John Barsnes like to use!!
Anyway they are cheaper than my partions and Aframe so even if for practice purposes it will be worth it!

If anyone is a big fan of the 9.3, you should get the book 9.3x62 Mauser ,it's mostly writings from South Africa and Australia with a bit American. It's excerpts from other publications all bound together. I'm finding it a great read and talks alot comparing the 9.3 to the 375!
Alot of real world data on hearty African animals.
I have the book and it is a good read, that said some of it is so bias it ain’t even funny lol, some of them sounds like the 6.5creadmore crowd hahaha

Yeah, exactly right! It's a fun read, but the anti-Imperial bias needs to be counted for. It's like Apple fanbois dissing Android. That said, the second half of the book is a great compendium of load recipes and bullet types. I've yet to try my 9.3 for hunting, but I drew an elk tag this year so that's going to be my elk medicine... provided I can get my scope mounting issues sorted. Reloading my once-fired PPU cases with PPU 286's over Varget.

That's pretty zippy. At those grain weights, isn't the 9.3 supposed to have an MV of circa 2300 fps?
My loads for 286gn partitions and Aframe are about 2450fps but those bullets can take that not so the interlock or Speer hotcor

Yeah that is way too high for that bullet or so I heard!
Considering that one bull was shot at 200yds which means the velocity was about 2200f/s and at 300yds 2000f/s on impact. I cut the bullet lengthwise to see what the jacket looks like and how thick it was and it was very sobering to say the least. I called Hornady and had a good conversation with a ballistican. He stated that 2 bulls are not a good indicator for bullet performance and i have to agree but guaranteed him that there wont be another bull with this bullet. I shot several elk and moose with that gun after that but just not with that bullet. i have to say that i never had a that problem with Speer 270gr Hotcor. They might have no exit hole but at least they mushroom nicely.

Some time back, after Teds comments on the 9.3x62, I decided I 'needed' one. I went the 'inexpensive' route and from a dealer back east, I picked up a full wood M-70 Zastava. In preparation, I acquired a selection of bullets to load test. However, from a friend/dealer locally, I picked up some new unprimed Lapua brass and a quantity od 285gr PRVI bullets to get M 70 Zastava, '.366 Wagner'.JPGme started. With the results of first few loads using the 285gr PRVI bullets, I hav'.366 Wagner'.jpge yet to try any other loads/bullets. Also, I've ;) renamed the calibre the 366 Wagner.

I found JB’s 9.3x62 load data:

I used the above data to develop loads for a safari to Mozambique last July. I could not safely reproduce JB’s 286 gr. Nosler partition load. Pressure appeared too high at 65 grains of Ramshot BG. I settled on 64 grains, and just over 2400 fps. Got the same results on testing Swift Aframes of the same weight. From my rifle’s 23” barrel. The biggest game I took with that load was a nice huge eland, bigger than any moose, which died quickly. I didn’t miss the extra velocity theoretically possible with some rifles.

What is a 366 Wagner??? Never mind, i just read it that you renamed it. Don’t know why you would do that but hey, nowadays one can also identify as a cat.

9.3mm=.366". I "jokingly" renamed the 9.3x62 the 366 Wagner in recognition of Ted Wagners work and efforts with the 9.3x62 cartridge. Sorry if that upset you.
