Anyone using a 338 Federal?

I am looking at a new hunting rifle and I am considering a Tikka in 338 Federal. I have researched this new round a fair amount and I have wavered between yay and nay. Although my purpose would be minute-of-critter accuracy, I am wondering if anyone has anything to report on having used one, or if anyone can suggest a good unbiased article one way or the other.

I'll can assure you, I think I know all I need to know about the many 30 and 338 chamberings out there, and I already have "plan B" in mind... I'm just looking for thoughts on the 338F.

Gosh I hope someone with some first hand knolwedge on the 338 Fed will reply to your question as I to am intrigued by this cartridge. I have read about the energy that it produces at 1-2-300 yards and it shure sounds impressive.
I have a Tikka T3 lam/ss on the shelf I would just love to break in. But I would have to think it will go the way of the 358 and eventually fall into obscurity ?? David.
 
Brother has a custom one being made right now, supposed to be finished in a couple weeks.
He plans on bringing it moose hunting in september, hopefully I will have a good report to tell.

Great choice in my opinion.

The 338 Federal will be an excellent cartridge for any practical hunting ranges, with the larger bore diameter and velocities under 3000fps it will be less destructive than many of the commonly used cartridges as well. You can always handload the bigger bullets (250) if nescessary.

The Tikka is a great choice in a light, slick packing rifle as well.

I shot one of the TS's in a stainless laminate in 300 mag.the other day to zero it.
After the initial zeroing in the lead sled I took one shot offhand, and it was not bad at all.

look up data for the 338-08. there is NOTHING new about the .338 fed. it was quite the flop as a wildcat, we'll just have to see how it does as a factory chambering. personally I don;t think it willl do anything the .308 win won't. velocities seem to really fall off with bullets over 200grs. what's the point of having a .338 if you're going to shoot light bullets?

like everything else "new", i'm sure it will sell.
