Is there anyone here that is using the Smith Muzzle Brake on their M14. How much louder is it compared to the factory flash hider? Does it help with recoil any?

It is louder and about 3 times the weight of the norc FH. Recoil, I don't recall a change but it has controlled the change in zero as the barrel heats up....Bob

No change in recoil Bob? I was considering one to help tame that verticle pop-up I get shooting the gun off stands or bags. Any other brakes out there worth looking at CGNers?

Recoil I can't recall as I've been shooting my SOCOM version more. Barrel lift as I remember was improved. Will take it out this weekend to refresh my memory...Bob

Well, the one I used, this one in .308:

It killed muzzle flip by approximately half, and felt recoil was reduced by probably a third. Of course, this is all my own interpretation. I fired this beside an unmodified M14s, and that was the result.

BUT! Muzzle report went up a LOT, and it was unpleasant to be on either side of it, in line with the shooter.

All in all, it was a fantastic break, and I loved it. Definately my top pick.

Thanks,

Brad

PaveHammer,
Did you have a Vortex on yours before? Just wondering how they compare. Did you orders yours from Smith and have it mailed to Canada? I want one also.
