Anyone using Winchester small pistol primers in a Lee 1000?

CCI's seem to be getting more difficult to find however I have a source for Winchesters ... Lee seems to only recommend CCI and Remington primers for some reason ... what's the problem with Winchesters? Anyone using them in the Lee 1000?

Sorry, used boat loads of Dominion and CCI, but never Winchester. I know they advise against using Federal because of their sensitivity, and the higher potential for a mass primer explosion. That well may be the issue with the Winchester as well.

I had a Federal primer go off in my Loadmaster years ago. WOW! Does that ever spread a hundred primers around the garage in a hurry! First thing I ordered besides the replacement parts was a "blast shield" ..... No problem since.
 
If I use Winchester small primers in my Lee hand primer some of the primers will tip over or actually go upside down. I don't know if it is the contour of the primer or perhaps my 35 year old tool is just worn out. With other primers I do not seem to have a problem. I love Federal small pistol and actually had a detonation of one once just as the wife walked by. She asked if that was normal and I just said no. It did not blow anything apart or make a mess and I could see no reason for the bang. I was and always will wear safety glasses though.
 
I've loaded ammo using Winchester small pistol primers with my Lee Pro 1000. No more or less problems that the CCI primers I've used as well.

I have this too using the hand primer tool and CCI's ... maybe 1 in 200 ... also get 1/100 that will crush in sideways. Always seem to have a few to fix at the end of a priming session
 
From my research it seems if you read press instructions from a bunch of years ago Lee used to recommend CCI and Winchester primers ... then changed that recommendation to CCI and Remingtons in recent times ... you have to wonder why ...

I guess that is why you check them before adding powder. Because my gun that uses small primers doesn't like CCI I probably haven't seen this occur.
