Posted this in the Gear and Accessories forum with no luck, so I thought I'd try the hunting thread.

I've been considering getting some decent hunting clothing, and saw some Rivers West clothes at LB earlier this year. I've been researching their website, and I really like the concept. The only issue I have is that the clothes, while waterproof and soft, no matter what temperature, are not breathable. On most of their jackets they have underarm vents to allow humidity to escape. One reviewer at Cabelas said they were soaked inside after putting up a stand. Of course, I normally take off any coat when doing some work like that, but I'm concerned about walking into the stand and getting oversweaty and then cold, etc..etc. I get all sweaty from wearing a regular rain coat...

Just wanted to get some opinions here. The material is very soft, won't tear and doesn't make any noise (it's a waterproof fleece, ircc) and is even stretchy.

They do have two types of material, one that's thinner so it's not as warm and might make you sweat less.

Anyone wear this stuff? Any opinions would help.

Thanks a lot,
Paul.

I have a Rivers West jacket, and I think it is the best WP/B fabric I've ever seen for hunting.

It is warm, so much so that in cool-cold weather, I wear one layer less than normal underneath.

When I was checking out new clothes last year, it was the softest, quietest, most comfortable I could find. I think it's worth the price.

I haven't seen the newer, lighter material...

Thanks Silverado.

The new material (well it might not be new, but more recent in the past few years, i suppose) is the H2P Law system. It appears to be lighter than the regular H2P system, which is intended for real cold. Some models are either H2P or H2P Law, depending on the product you're looking for.

What about breathability? Do you sweat in it like a rainsuit? or is it not that bad? (I know that some jackets have underarm vents).

Thanks again,
Paul.

In warmer weather, it's like wearing a heavy fleece jacket. It is warm, but has enough venting and zippers for me. I just wear a t-shirt in warm weather under it, or on sunny days I sometimes wear something else.

Rivers west

I have been wearing Rivers West for three years now and it is the best clothing out there. I guide and hunt about 100 days a year and it has held up fine. Much better than Cabelas, Browning or Bass Pro Shop stuff. If I have one complaint, it can be very warm in the early season and is a bit bulkey when sheep or goat hunting. I have not tried the LAW stuff yet but plan on it next year.

You cannot go wrong with RW. The cheapest I found in Canada was Lebaron, but you can find it sometimes cheaper in the US.

Thanks for the input. The only problem I have with LeBaron is that they only seem to carry Mossey Oak. I really wanted some Realtree AP (okay, I really really wanted some Predator Brown Deception or Fall Gray, but RW doesn't offer that, unfortunately :(). Cabelas also don't offer the models that come in LAW or Realtree AP, either.

Hmmm.. Maybe I just need to wait until next year when the new modesl become more readily available.

Thanks,
Paul.
