Anyone wear surgical gloves while reloading?

I only wear surgical rubber gloves in the American reloading forums sunray is in now that you kicked him out of this Canadian forum. The gloves keep any stupidity from working their way through the mouse and keyboard.

I have a love hate relationship with this forum now that your Canadian Zombie sunray has infested our American forums.

I hope all your duct tape dries out and Holmes on Homes tears all your houses down. :slap:

Well, it's good to know Ole Sunray is still out there helping uneducated folk still.
And I've been known to wear gloves if handling a lot of cast rounds, just makes sense IMO.

I always wear Nitrile Gloves when I clean my Brass, or remove from tumbler ( liquid Tumbling). No need for Surgical ones, they are expensive, just make sure your gloves are not Latex ( skin Allergies). Your fingers might have small cracks. I wouldn't care about getting oil from my hand on the brass ?!! Just a cleaner approach :)

I found some of these at CTC they also work well

Like most things, normal is a range. Some people are much more sensitive to lead and heavy metals poisoning than others. I haven't worn nitrile or latex gloves myself when reloading or cleaning brass and I've never been ill, but I am seriously considering it regardless. I think it's a reasonable safety precaution similar to wearing safety glasses when reloading.

I don't wear gloves or glasses when reading. I don't scrub down my bench when I'm done. And I don't make fun of anyone that does.
At my work we are going through a huge safety evolution right now. The company had ignored it since 1980's levels until a few months ago. Workplace health and safety came in and nearly had a litter of kittens. There was a lot of resistance and fighting in the company. Some took it seriously right off the bat. Some of us didnt accept easily. People mocked coworkers for using PPE. Now, a couple months later, the only ones that look stupid are the ones not using their gear and looking over their shoulder all the time.

I'm in the Nitril glove wearing group, to remove fired brass from the covered top, dry media tumbler. My brass is then de-primed and re-sized..
If I see the primer pockets are getting grungy, I run them through an RCBS Sonic Tumbler, then spray off with hot water and dry.
I try to wear gloves for most of the processing, as, like other mentioned, I too have had high heavy metal issues.
It seems to have aggravated my arthritis and my sawbones suggested I practice a little more care re-loading.
Apparently he doesn't want to lose a fishing partner just yet ☺

I never wore gloves for over 20 years reloading. A couple years ago my volume of shooting went up a LOT as I got into pistols, and I started reloading more. I now wear nitrile gloves when removing cases from tumbling media, not for any medical reason but for cleanliness. Helping eliminate one more potential point of exposure to lead and toxins is just a bonus.

Always do, when i noticed my lead count increased after testing.

you never know what other materials are in the brass or bullets, etc....

You would be better off wearing a respirator then gloves if you are really worried when handling dirty brass. That goes for shooting lead indoors as well.

I wore gloves for the first time last night while loading 400 rounds of FMJ for a match this weekend.

My most recent blood test indicated I have an elevated lead level in my body and I'm taking extra precautions across the board. Less shooting indoors, wearing long sleeves when shooting, washing clothes after shooting, and wearing gloves when loading.

Lead poisoning is not cool and I do not want to have to quit the sport.

I guess if a person was only using brass out of their gun and was shooting mono bullets, it wouldn't be a concern but only my hunting ammo is TSX or TTSX,,,,,, there's no way I'll be using those projectiles for practice shooting,,,,too pricey. As far as I know gun powder doesn't have lead in it, does it??

Funny thing, I have pics of my Dad on his 48 Harley wearing his helmet in the early 50's. He was the first person in Sudbury to wear one, and he was constantly ridiculed.

No, but primers do and they also have mercury and other nasties

Good know. I don't handle the new ones because I put them in a hand primewr a box at a time. When I deprime, I'll admit I've handled some of them but mostly I vaccuum them up off the floor since my press doesn't have a containment box. We have boxes and boxes of surgical gloves at work,,,,I think I may have to scoop a few pairs.
