Hey, folks. My dad is coming to visit us in Ottawa this upcoming Easter weekend, and he loves target shooting. I have a few handguns and “fun” rifles, like a GSG-16 and an X-95, but I haven’t yet bought a nice high quality target/hunting rifle.

Would anyone in the Ottawa area (Barrhaven, specifically) be willing to loan me a nice hunting/target rifle for the weekend? I could make it worth your while with a nice 6-pack of your favorite beer or whatever. I’ll take care of the ammo, I’m really just looking for a nice target shooting platform for my dad for the weekend.

EDIT: Thanks for all the feedback folks, I've made arrangements with one of the members. Nice to know there are still a few friendly folks in the shooting community. :)

I would if you were closer. Any time you can do something nice for dad is a good day.

So let me get this straight. You want to borrow a precision target rifle from a total stranger and wow, your going to give them a entire 6 pack. Boy I wished I lived closer.

If you can afford it why not start shopping for a decent entry level bolt action in 223 or 22lr and a decent budget scope and by the time your dad and you are ready to go target shooting you could have it ready and you can both put the first rounds through it and it could turn out to be a great time for both of you. It sounds like you want to find something that shoots well so this could be the excuse you need to buy a new gun, anyways it's just a thought

6 pack of 60oz Glenlivet 12 year old I could probably find something to lend you...lol

If you were friends it wouldn't be such a big deal, and after all you only need one person to say yes.

Just know the chances are super slim

Some people like this guy may not choose to be insulted. What he says is true, likely slim if any offerings. You might get more offers if you were to invite someone and provide some ammo for example or maybe you could trade for a bit

Hopefully you find someone who is willing to share the experience rather than wipe their ass and show it to you.

The guy didnt ask for a Barret or holland and holland people, he asked for a target or hunting rifle? I dont see the big deal, rifles like that start in $low hundreds$

I don’t like to borrow things because I know if I break it, it’s mine.
That’s the issue I would have if I were to loan out something to anyone.

Not good when you loan an expensive tool or gun and it comes back broken.

Well, if you are out in Barrhaven, Cabela's isn't all that far away. Matter of fact, the Old Co-op is just a short drive away in North Gower.

So you say, "I have nothing to lose if I ask".

I personally don’t loan out my guns to my friends( and especially to my relatives lol) as I ve seen a few friendships lost over such things as a gun coming back damaged with only a “sorry” as an explanation and nothing else .But in this case with a stranger it would be a definite no even if it was a beater gun as you could possibly be held accountable if something violent happened with the gun as you never know how the police these days would react to such a thing as they like to come down on gun owners these days.I m sure the OP is a good guy but I personally wouldn t take the chance

Also the guy is asking for nice high quality target rifle , I would loan him my wife before I d loan out one of my high quality guns at least I know he would be sure to return my wife (rather quickly lol)

Well, aside from the liability issues....and assuming that you find someone who will also do a PAL verification on you...and assuming you are okay with that (and you didn't mention it at all, so who knows?)...

...I find myself thinking that I personally would never dream of making this request, other than perhaps asking a close friend. But someone asking this on the internet, of a bunch of total strangers, obviously thinks way, way differently than I do...so, how do I know how he will treat my gun? You're not only asking strangers to do this for you; you're asking them to lend you one of their guns so that you can then hand it over to another party, i.e. your father?

Sorry...keep your beer...
