Like the thread title states, I have some , 318 actually 30-30 lubed/checked flat nosed bullets, that I wish to try in my trusty M94. I was wondering if anyone is willing to share thier reload data which are proven and safe/accurate in thier similar rifles/carbines???
Thanks in advance...........

Brutus,
A few years back I needed a cast bullet for 30-30 for shooting in side shoots at the handgun silhouette range. The rules were iron sights, tube magazines, exposed hammer and cast bullets. It was a way to shoot the old Winchesters that never saw use otherwise. With the 150 gr Lee Flat-nose (Heat treated) I used 17 grains of IMR 4759 which would group about 6 inches at 200 meters. That was enough to knock down rams with a rifle length Canadian Centenial '94 and was a lot of nearly free fun. Offhand shooting at 50,100,150 and 200 meters with an old saddlegun and home cast bullets got to be addictive so I needed more molds for my other rifles too. I couldn't do all my practicing with the wrong guns could I?

Yes, the Lee manual is great for cast bullet loads, especially 30-30, 308 and 30-06. It is a good resource and cheap too. People have made working with cast bullets a lot harder than it has to be.

I shot that 173 Lyman #311041 in my marlin for years with 27grains of 3031. I must have put 2000 of them through that rifle and was most satisfied. A friend of mine gets 1" groups from his .308 with these bullets at 100yds. I probably shot half a dozen deer with them but never found a bullet because they passed through at any angle. It is doubtful that they expanded at all but the deer never complained. These were cast with straight wheelweights.
