Anyone with pet loads for the T3 Sporter in .308?

So I did it, I bought a T3 Sporter in .308 and it should be at my door in a week or so. I've been meaning to get a .308 bolt for a little while now so that I can experiment with a new caliber and see how it compares to my .223s.

So, where do I begin?

I have a supply of 1000 CCI BR2s, Varget powder and H4895 powder. I will likely get my hands on some Winchester brass and go from there.

Any good recipes to suggest using the ingredients I have thus far? From the limited reading that I've done e Berger 175s are a good choice for 1000yrd shooting and anything closer I would assume too.
 
Keep perusing through German Salzars articles there... Theres one that begins with the essence 'there's no productive replacement for putting in range time and tayloring a load to your rifle'. Keep readin and get out on the range to sling lead into the dirt! It'll come with ease, the hardest part is getting out the door.
 
Use the same ammo that everybody else is using for their 30" barrel .308Wins.

Your choice of primer, powder and brass are good ones.

Drop by some evening and pick up a box of Berger 155.5s to try. Load them with 45.5 H4895, seat the bullet to about 30 thou off the rifling. Sight in at 100m, then move to 900m and verify that they work as well for you as they do for me...... (that's how extensive my load development was!!).

If you want something other than 155s, I would suggest the Berger 185BT.
 
Rifle showed up today. Was going to start getting some ammo loaded but have just realized that I completely forgot to buy some .308 shell holders for the press.

I will certainly try some Bergers and also some Sierras perhaps.
 
The 'go to' loads from internet wisdom are 46 gr of Varget under a 155 gr pill (appears to be a OCW load for many rifles), and 44 gr of Varget or RL15 under a 175. With the 11 twist barrel, you can probably sling 185 or 208 grain bullets over RL17 or CFE223 as well, and maintain stability way out there.

Try a ten round workup to each 'working' load, ie 43.5, 43.8, 44, 44.3, 44.6, 45, 45.3, 45.6, 45.9, 46.2 gr Varget under the 155 to check pressure and if the rifle has no qualms try loading a couple dozen rounds at the recommended load and see how the rifle likes it. This isn't load development by any stretch, rather a shot in the dark for what the rifle might like based on consistency across other rifles with the same load. Not that that should hold any logic in the ultra precise reloading world, nor would I believe it either if I hadn't seen it myself.

I've had good success with the 155 + Varget load in a few different rifles, but prefer for whatever reason, to sling 208's, much to my shoulder's chagrin.
 
With a 24" barrel will he get enough velocity for the 155.5's or 155's to shine at that distance?
